I need help guys, of course not super experienced with this.

So, recently got a HP Compaq 8200 USDT and comes with an i3. Not going to lie, after servicing it, the machine performs amazingly fast, I can record screen and use Photoshop with +100px brushes without any lag (!) and I've decided to upgrade the processor to an i7.

ChatGPT already helped me find the "best" Processor I can fit into the machine without having power issues, and that's the i7-2600S.
According to ChatGPT, It'll make my desktop 7 times faster (!!)

BUT the only person selling that exact processor is a guy in my hood, and he's selling them at $800+ (pesos) but this dude says "it'll arrive in a few months because I'm importing from China"... BUT... Ali Express has the same i7 (supposedly) at a cheap price of $200+shipping (less than $300)...

OBVIOUSLY, this person selling locally is buying them in bulk from China and selling them x3 the price...

BUT... guy selling expensive has good reviews of real people, and the seller from China has none, the only review it has is: "⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ refund got fast"

Lots of red flags here from both sides.

I would like to take the risk and buy from Ali Express... but, any guys here has bought PC parts from Ali Express?
Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

I'd trust it / try it, I think aliexpress does have a some protection (as in, not 0% right), and if you pay in a way (like using a credit card) then you might get protection that way.

The guy selling locally is also selling in Mercado Libre (currently my account is suspended because documentation) but I'm level 15 there and I can get a sweet discount, so... it's either getting scammed for cheap (Ali Express = No reviews but 700+ sold) or getting scammed for roughly $500 (Mercado Libre = Local guy from screenshot sold roughly 50 but positive reviews)

The final decision is your ofc. Pay cheap and lose less -if even the case- or pay triple and lose more, because in the end, you know where the guy is buying the processor from to re-sell it to you, and you have the possibility to buy it from the original source.

In the end AliExpress sells used computer parts, as almost everyone, recovered from computers that big companies throw away because they had upgraded.

I'd pay less, and risk less.

I'm aware, I'm not gonna find a processor from 10+ years ago in box and everything, but still, have had my share of bad luck buying from chinese stores, so this time I'm being "extra careful".
Many sellers selling the same thing. Dig into the seller info and reviews. Big red flags are reviews that have the same photo, but different buyer's names. This store seems more legit. Low reviews probably due to low demand of the cpu. Seller has been around since 2014.

I've been trying to search for reviews/scores/amount of sold items/seller's antiquity/rep... but all the info I find is mixed, or close to none. I'm just trying to be careful here.

From someone who has 300 emails from making countless Aliexpress accounts to abuse their welcome deal coupon to buy shit for 99 cents, I'd go for it!

Just keep in mind, if you get scammed, or your package is lost you're FUCKED. Getting a refund from Aliexpress is like pulling teeth, use Paypal. Paypal is extremely bias towards the buyer.

And a CC with PayPal for twice the protection.

The highlighted CPU is not a i7-2600S, you need to select the specific item you want to see its actual price, which for an i7-2600S is somewhere betwen 577 and 707 pesos from a couple different sellers. If you add the shipping and taxes you'll probably spend $800 or a bit more, so in this case I'd say go with the local seller, he already went through the hurdle of getting it delivered and hopefully tested it to make sure it works.

But if you go with Aliexpress it should be fine, just keep track of the package every couple of days. As a tip, check the box that says "Choice & Dto. IVA", items marked with that option are usually delivered much faster, have a tax discount and have much better customer protection.

In general I've had mostly positive experiences with Aliexpress, I've bought a few PC parts and lots of cables and adapters for game consoles, as well as spare parts like joysticks, membranes and modkits for controllers, and the only issues I've had were one where a package never arrived, but I got refunded, and a DDR3 ram stick that was DOA, but it was like 5 dollars so instead of sending it back and wait for the refund I just bought another one from a different brand.
