Hacking Homebrew GCN PicoBoot - GameCube IPL replacement modchip using Raspberry Pi Pico

Why would you need the LED to be on? It only tells you Pico gets power. You don't need it for PicoBoot to work. I recommend getting the official Pico board instead and not rely on someone to provide with a firmware because I can guarantee you won't receive any update from that maintainer when...

GCN How to update the older Kaico hdmi adapters to GCvideo 3.0e

If you get no orange light and only fan is spinning then it's most likely the main fuse on the power board.

You shorted something because you can see how power LED goes off which means overcurrent protection trips in. Show your soldering job.

On the original diagram it says to bridge GP6&7, you can bridge 6, 7 and 8 and see if that resolves the issue.

Don't cut the chassis, you can bend it a little bit and let cables through. Bending is reversible, cutting is not.

Hardware Homebrew GCN Questions about Picoboot and the IPL

Yes it's possible. Do not use ipl.dol file at all and put Swiss as one of x/y/b/a/start.dol to load it only if you hold down a button. QSB is not ready yet. I'm holding it off because I want to get Pico W support first as it'll require a change in wiring.

Hacking Homebrew GCN PicoBoot - GameCube IPL replacement modchip using Raspberry Pi Pico

I haven't even tried anything with Pico W yet. I don't think WiFi speed is going to be useful for anything other than providing updates to Swiss and PicoBoot. I highly doubt it'll be fast enough for game streaming, emulating LAN for MKDD or exchanging files via FTP. When Pico W support comes out...

Hacking Homebrew GCN PicoBoot - GameCube IPL replacement modchip using Raspberry Pi Pico

To not put your Raspberry Pi Pico at risk I have to say - yes. Although I'm not removing the wire for updates and I haven't killed my PicoBot yet.

Pico W is not officially supported yet but it should work. There is definitely an issue in your wiring if you get no video output. Post pictures of your install.

Hacking Homebrew GCN PicoBoot - GameCube IPL replacement modchip using Raspberry Pi Pico

PicoBoot v0.2 release Just a heads up I've just released new PicoBoot v0.2 firmware. It comes with updated iplboot which introduces overall reliability improvements and new features. The most important one is that you can hold D-Pad Down during boot to see output from iplboot. It's very useful...

@yo1dog I asked novenary for push access to redolution/iplboot repository. I want to take all the improvements from different forks and merge them in the main repository. Would you be interested in opening your pull request against https://github.com/redolution/iplboot? That way I'd be able to...

Hacking Homebrew GCN PicoBoot - GameCube IPL replacement modchip using Raspberry Pi Pico

It should work reliably as long as you keep the wires short. I can actually recommend a video from Joe Bleeps: he shows the most recommended location for the chip and how to route the wires correctly.

Hacking Homebrew GCN PicoBoot - GameCube IPL replacement modchip using Raspberry Pi Pico

USB extension cable won't work. You still need to have access to BOOTSEL button in order to flash Pico. Also don't install it this way - you're blocking SP1 port which you gonna need when M.2 Loader drops. There are only 4 screws to undo in order to program PIco - what's so difficult about it...

GCN Possible GameCube IPL exploit vector?

My M.2 SSD adapter has nothing to do with exploits. It's just a storage device. In order to use it you need a way to boot into Swiss. PicoBoot is a perfect match for M.2 Loader and this is the reason why I created PicoBoot in the first place. I don't have enough knowledge to figure out software...
