Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

What's the pin0 equivalent on the SEEED Xiao? The labeled 0 is tied to the RST pins as far as I can tell.

I think I'll put in an order with digikey and use the shipping time to cool my heels. There is definitely a skill issue, but I want to learn and this particular switch was already in rough cosmetic shape so it's as good a test bed as anything. Tools are a cobbled together set that I'm...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Well, while trying to change the wires I broke the CPU cap. I guess that ends this adventure! Thanks again for all your help friends, appreciate it!

Well, I switched to the front and still ==*. ...but I will try switching the wire to a larger gauge before complaining too much :) All points make correct continuity, this photo was taken after I reopened so I haven't tidied the thermal paste.

Does the front method require dual mosfets? Or can I run two wires to the drain? Do I need to re-cover the cpu before testing with power?

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Well, I upped the gauge of the 3.3v and gnd wires and gave a good IPA bath to every connection and still ==*. I'm going to redo the RST/CLK/DAT0/CMD connections but after that I'm kinda running out of ideas. I'll look at this now. EDIT: Redid the resistored lines and still ==*. Going to...

Flux residues -- haven't bothered with a deep clean b/c I haven't been satisfied I'm done soldering. Yes, I know that some can be, so I'll give it a wash and see if that changes anything. Not sure what you mean about the grd and 3.3v wire. Should it be thicker? Didn't bother with the USB port...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

I have good news! Something different has happened! Now it boots to a black screen lol. Took some more photos of other connections, and I double-checked the pico side of the soldering. All looks good! So hey, sharing more photos in case I'm missing something obvious. OK the black screen...

That was my assumption at this point.

Thank you again. I did check both the old mosfet and my new one, and both prior to installation did not have Source open to Drain. So they should have been OK to go. After installation, I have continuity between Source and Drain -- this confuses me and makes me wonder if I have a short...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

This was an excellent writeup, thank you. From your list, I believe I might have messed something up with the capacitor. When I was trying to get more solder on to fix the first cold joint, I accidentally covered the cap in solder + flux. I used my wick to clean it up, but perhaps there's...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Thanks for the ideas. Would a bad connection to the mosfet also trigger ==* ==* ==*? Is it a general "check the mosfet connection", or something else? Is there an order that the boot code goes in, so I can rule out other connection errors? Swapping the gate wire with a thicker enameled wire...

This mosfet: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/infineon-technologies/IRFHS8342TRPBF/2523446 N-Channel 30 V 8.8A (Ta), 19A (Tc) 2.1W (Ta) Surface Mount 6-PQFN (2x2) (DFN2020) I tried the polarity switch thing with the current mosfet and it didn't respond, so I'm going to swap them...

It certainly is very ugly! I will own that! As to why on the back? I didn't feel like messing with the lid on the CPU nor taking my awful soldering near there. This is my learning experience, so I wanted space to move around. I want to make sure I understand what you mean by continuity to...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Thanks again for the advice. I tinned up some 30 awg wire and used that as a wick for the solder to follow. Got big ol globs of solder now, and still getting ==*. One thing I noticed was the little component (capacitor?) sometimes reads as having resistance and continuity. Could I...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

I'll try that once this 30 awg (instead of 40 awg) arrives. What's the advantage or reasoning behind that? I see it posted but I don't understand what the mosfet is doing that requires certain thicknesses. Presumably to have the lowest possible resistance?

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

I'm getting the ==* mosfet error on my rear-soldered mosfet. Is there a way to further diagnose the error, such as low current or something? Or can I only just keep redoing and redoing the joints? Thanks for any help!

    Homebrew HomePass recreation/streetpass reverse engineering?

Yes, I have watched it, talked on the discord, messing around on my own... My question stands, as someone who only has one 3ds I'd love to see what a pass looks like in a packet sense.

    Homebrew HomePass recreation/streetpass reverse engineering?

Has anyone ever publicly posted a Wireshark capture of a Streetpass between two 3DSs? If they have, I haven't seen it. I'd rather not buy a second 3ds just to see what's going on!
