The first retro emulator hits Apple's App Store, but you should probably avoid it

Finally, we got one https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/17/24132984/delta-free-emulator-nintendo-gba-n64-iphone-app-store-us From what I understand, Delta has been the premiere iOS emulator suite for a while now. In the EU though, they're using it to push their alternative 3rd party store.

The first retro emulator hits Apple's App Store, but you should probably avoid it

Well... apparently the developer pulled it from the App Store themselves "out of fear", whatever that means https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/16/24132351/iphone-apple-app-store-nes-emulator-bimmy-removed

The first retro emulator hits Apple's App Store, but you should probably avoid it

This was a licensing thing. As the article here states they ripped off a pre-existing emulator without credit (which is required under its licensing) and the original author rightfully got Apple to take it down

The first retro emulator hits Apple's App Store, but you should probably avoid it

Of the people who are sideloading apps on iOS, I'm willing to bet the most popular use case by a wide margin is for emulators. I've had an iphone for a decade and it's the only thing I've even considered sideloading. Fortunately, those apps are finally allowed.

Will Bloodborne ever get released on the PC?

Bloodborne? No, I don't think it ever will. The inevitable Bloodborne Remaster that will come out in the late 20s? Perhaps, but even then not guaranteed.

    Who or what is Lamefuck?

I've seen quite a few sites that do it. I think Emuparadise (RIP) always kept the group in the filename of its GBA/DS ROMs

How do you recommend backing up your data?

For your use, an external drive might be best, at least if it's data you don't really plan on using very often. I have a home server with larger drives in it that I backup my data to. Some stuff I just manually copy things over via a network share, but for some of my more active folders, I have...

Is lower capacity memory less prone to data rot?

That's really interesting. I never thought about that, but it makes sense.

"New Windows driver blocks software from changing default web browser"

I'll admit I did misread this. However, I think it would prevent browsers from having a "Set as default browser" button that works? Which seems pretty annoying, I would imagine that's how most people set their default browser, rather than digging around in some Windows setting. It's been a...

"New Windows driver blocks software from changing default web browser"

The most relevant example I can think of is opening URLs from external applications, like Discord.

"New Windows driver blocks software from changing default web browser"

I'm not quite sure how that logic works. This seems like the exact opposite of that. I know people have their reservations about Linux, but boy it's nice to be free of this nonsense If anyone else is thinking about switching, I would strongly recommend Linux Mint as well. I think it's probably...

    Gaming Skyrim Won't Open

I've been playing Skyrim Special Edition on my Linux machine just earlier this week, and haven't had any problems. Which Proton version are you using?

OK, so we are all here because at the core, we are GAMERS. Which consoles do you currently use? I'd like EVERYBODY HERE to chime in!

Here's the consoles I own, with the ones in bold being the ones I've used within the last month or so Nintendo: Game Boy Color Game Boy Advance (Modded with IPS screen, USB-C rechargable battery, various other improvements) Nintendo DS Nintendo 3DS A jank NES which needs its 30 pin connector...

    Rumor April's Nintendo Direct leaked?

I've learned to be skeptical about Nintendo Directs. If I'm going to be critical, the things I believe the least are Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 (mostly because it seems weird to re-release Galaxy 1 again, as part of a different bundle) and New Leaf HD. There's already an AC game on Switch, it...

Has RetroArch made individual emulators kind of obsolete?

I'm no fan of Windows in general, but we recently switched from Win10 to Win11 at work and... I don't really see the hate either. Granted, since it's my work machine I don't really modify too many settings or install nearly as many programs as I would otherwise, but it seems to be a...

Has RetroArch made individual emulators kind of obsolete?

I wish I liked RetroArch, but I frankly can't stand using it. I'm not sure what it is, but I find their UI incredibly unintuitive to use, even down to simple things like changing controller bindings. It's definitely gotten a lot better, I'll admit, and I do use it in situations where I have a...

Are you still using any hardware that came out more than a decade ago? What for?

I recently replaced my home server, so I'm not anymore, but up until a few months ago I was using a 2010 Mac Mini with Ubuntu as my home server. It held up pretty well, although I did get more RAM for it at one point. It was even able to run a small Minecraft server, although at completely 100%...

The Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit fan remake has been released

This is quite fun, I played through the first zone as a test. The physics seem pretty close to the genesis games; I wasn't able to really detect any differences. I did play this on Linux, it was running just fine via Steam Proton. I would love to see a native port, but there was no mention of one.

Hardware How do I create my own website?

I self host my own personal website on a spare computer. It's a pretty simple site, but the basic ideas should be the same even if you want to host something you haven't written (media streaming, game servers, etc). This topic was originally made 12 years ago, but if anyone in the future is...

Is https everywhere still needed? I used to use it, but Firefox has it's own HTTPS-only mode now.
