Hacking Question Is it possible to use USB drives as storage devices to load your games yet?

The USB Mass Storage support in SXOS is buggy and stupid I found.. And its closed source and proprietary, so nobody can fix it. Quark/Goldleaf works well.

Hacking Question Is it possible to use USB drives as storage devices to load your games yet?

I'm no expert, but SXOS allows you to do this. A simple workaround for Atmosphere/Kosmos/Etc in which you don't need the USB stick is that you can load a Java app called "Quark" (comes with goldleaf) on a PC after entering Goldleaf and connecting the switch with the USB cable. It will allow...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

I doubt it would work undocked. If you're plugging a RockPi or OrangePi in with a wire, it's not very wireless then. On the switch it only does anything in SXOS. You can install XCI's to the system, or "mount" them and use them as if they were a gamecart that is plugged in. "But, you also...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

You have a micro usb in the "OTG" port plugged into a PC? What trouble are you having? The process should be logging into the orange pi, getting it to mount your NAS, creating the image file that will contain the FAT filesystem, and then enabling the OTG mass storage by inserting the...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

In my opinion with either of them, it will take a few seconds to load a game. You asked about performance and cost. If you want performance go for the Rockpi. If you want to save money get the cheaper one. Both will work. Don't get a raspberry pi zero, it wont.

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

Sorry for the late reply. It's difficult to get any reliable speed testing on the console, but I can say for sure the switch and the 360 only use USB2 mode on the rockpi. I would recommend the OrangePi, speed seems the same except for connecting to a PC, but it would be faster to just use the...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

I don't currently have SXOS on any of my switches so I can't really test speed with that at the moment, with gigabit ethernet to the rockpi, and USB3 mass storage serving a FAT32 file image which is located on my RAID6, I get about 90MB/s when the rockpi is connected to my Macbook at USB3 speed...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

I've been using it as well, but I've been using disk images shared over NFS so I haven't run into any issues with >6GB. Recently I switched to Atmosphere instead of SXOS, which I discovered doesn't have the ability to use USB mass storage devices in the same way as SXOS. I find the Rockpi...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

Hi there, 1. the problem you will run into is that mounting the same filesystem on two different devices (usually) is a problem (at the very least, one of them needs to be read only which is fine the switch doesn't need write access). I believe the tutorial I linked to up there, (...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

An update... In trying to figure out what is going on with the raspberry pi, I found that the state of the otg driver for the raspberry pi is not good. For most things, there is a usb driver for its hardware that works well but it doesn't support otg. Therefor you have to force it to use the...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

Sorry, I havent had much time to work on this lately.. I will definitely do a tutorial eventually if I can find something more useable. One thing I do notice is with the pi, using it in host mode and transferring data to a PC and just watching it's speed it will dip to nothing for a second or...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

Will do, I'll keep this thread updated if I make more progress. This morning I tried using nbd (network block disk) instead of iSCSI and had basically the same results. I'm not sure where to take my troubleshooting next, basically the same thing happens when I try to do xci mounting on the...

Hacking SXOS Loading xci's over the network with a raspberry pi

I'm not sure if anyone else might find this interesting, but having finally achieved some success I thought I might post about it. One day while I was playing with a raspberry pi zero in usb host mode (so it appears to be different types of devices to whatever its plugged into), I got the idea...

ROM Hack Question stardew valley editor?

We found out that you definitely can change the gold to FF FF FF FE, and the number is so large that it wont display, but you can spend it just fine. :) To go back in the editor, you just push up to scroll up a line, I'm not sure why that wasn't working before. And we were able to use a...

ROM Hack Question stardew valley editor?

Thanks very much for this.. I took this further, and realized that FF FF is 16 bits, so I did that and threw some blueberries in the box and slept. This gave me 65,685 gold, so I did a new search on "010095", and changed the corresponding values to FF FF FF, which gave me 16,777,215 gold. One...

Hacking USB Loader - Multidisk USB devices

I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on this, but my attempts so far have been less than fruitful. I've tried various things like NBD (Network Block Device), and most recently iSCSI. I was very hopeful with iSCSI for a while, I can create a target device and connect to it with Windows...

Hacking USB Loader - Multidisk USB devices

In his example, it "ejects" itself from the host that it's plugged into while you transfer files, and "reinitialises" afterward.. My plan is to have the Pi act as a bridge to other filesystems. There wouldn't be an actual FAT32 partition anywhere, except in the Pi would provide a FAT table and...

Hacking USB Loader - Multidisk USB devices

The Raspberry Pi is a block device in OTG mode. It emulates a USB stick. Or an ethernet card, or a keyboard, or any other usb device or combo of devices you want it to pretend to be. Example: (Hes making his Pi appear to be a USB stick to the device its plugged into, it also runs a Samba...

Hacking USB Loader - Multidisk USB devices

Not at all. OverlayFS allows you to concatenate multiple filesystems into one. The idea would be to have an SD card as the "upper" read/write filesystem, with backups stored on any number of "lower" filesystems, which could be NFS, CIFS/SMB, physical disks, USB sticks, etc. The rPI would take...

Hacking USB Loader - Multidisk USB devices

I don't have a Wii U, just the old classic Wii softmodded. I find it cumbersome to load backups on the USB drive. I don't really have any interest in playing the games, I have kids for that. Making old hardware do something it wasn't intended to do is my idea of fun.. I'm imagining a respberry...
