    Side note, I would recommend the 3DS over a DSi (but not necessarily XL) irrespective of 3D aspects. Once it's out, anyway. Why? WPA support. It works on a modern wireless network.

    Just hack the SAV file. It changes the same bits of hex code that the event would, and you can do it without access to a time machine. P.S. keep a backup...just in case. The existing Pokemon save editors aren't foolproof.
