Ah, It's near the end of the DT file. I don't know how me or the hex editor missed that before ._.; Thanks again, as always.

    ROM Hack [Release] Sm4shCommand

I have another question for the ages: Where does DTLSExtractor get the filenames? LS seems to be too small to hold the filenames (considering that the "resource" file outputted by DTLSExt is 500KB, and the decompressed file is a MB), and the compressed file is compressed using SM4SH's ZLIB...

Hacking 3DS NOOB PARADISE - Ask questions here

Right. I got everything up to the emuNAND step, and upgraded RX-E 9.0 to RX-E 10.3. Now what's weird is that when I try to link my NNID (on emuNAND), it gives me an error code, saying I need a system update. I also can't access E-Shop as well, albeit with the error code 022-2634. Don't know...

There's the method to use makerom.exe on a decrypted CIA file to make it CCI and then use 3DS ROM Tools GUI, but idk if there's a decrypted CIA out there for 1.1.3 yet.

You You use Windows Explorer. If you're running Windows 10 (like me), you go to File>Open Command Prompt. and then you use that. This is literally what you do, so you understand:

    ROM Hack [Release] Sm4shCommand

...You run it from commandline. The method is DTLSExtractor.exe (path to dt file) (path to ls file) A folder called "data" should appear.

From what I gather with LS, that's also compressed and only contains the offsets or something? lsdt only used hashes and thus jumbled up all the data; I have no idea what DTLSExtractor does. Maybe husky can shed some light on LS.

You know, I've heard a lot of ZLIB but never actually tried it out or used it. Thanks for the answer, though.

    ROM Hack [Release] Sm4shCommand

I literally opened dt in a hex editor and saw this: There's no PK header. They're no filenames. There's a long stream of Ì's. Of course, the better question here is why would Nintendo and bamci use ZIP compression for a commercial game when nintendo are notorious data nazis

    ROM Hack [Release] Sm4shCommand

Question: What type of compression does dt and ls use? I'm semi curious because I noticed that some parts of the BCH files don't get compressed (like the BCH headers, and a lil info after that), and then it streams into compressed data. Reminds me of compression in CPK files.

    Hello, I Suppose

Hi there I'm Godkarmachine, goes by EDX and Furo elsewhere, I rip sprites as a hobby and hang around various parts of the net, basically. I'm pretty interested in hacking (even though I can't code, heh), but I try. Other than that i'm really not that notable.

ROM Hack Little Help Here with Dream Team DAT files

(Hi, New guy here) So I've been examining Dream Team's DAT files for a while now, Using a hex editor to extract the individual BCRES files from them, runs smoothly. However, Little Question: Anyone know where the character sprites are kept in the file system? I'm talking specific file names...

I thought PS4/5 and Xbox One emulation would be kind of easy since they basically just a PC
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
    they sorta are a pc
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They haslve dedicated on board chips that aren't tweaked like x64/x32 afaik
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
but its a custom os for both of them
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
    designed for only specific hardware
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
so you have to learn to emulate that specific hardware which isn't as easy as you'd think
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It's a locked down Linux distro basically
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think the only custom hardware is to do with the SSD and a security chip
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Probably combined in one chip
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They place married security chips onto boards iirc
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Damn Frontier is offering 5Gbps now lol
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I honestly can't recommend any of the big 3 this years I'd say buy a rog ally z1 if we're being honest
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Honestly after the PS3 and 360 I just went full PC
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Every games basically cross platform they only have about 6 titles making it worth the $600 price tag
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Didn't see much need for a console, all the advantages have kind of disappeared
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
the ps3 used to support installing linux because the cpu was so powerful
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Then the games are $70 and they want to reboot and refresh the same game every year
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
The ps3 was always Linux they just found a way to make it open source
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
I'm avoiding buying from the big 3 at all atm
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
At one point PC game pads where poorly supported, loading a game had setup, it was complicated. Now it's almost as easy as a console.
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
nintendo needs to up their game soon
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah even bt support for Xbox one controllers are just as easy as pairing
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
considering the steamdeck can emulate the switch (yikes) theres almost 0 reason to buy the switch apart from playing online and using cartridges
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Xinput and 360 dongles were a driver nightmare
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I remember having to manually put in drivers and what not
