Review Approach:
Huge thank you to Retroflag and GBAtemp for choosing me ass the giveaway winner and providing me with this product! I was absolutely ecstatic when I was chosen, and even more so when I found out that I would be getting a full kit! I couldn't thank you enough :)
I will be reviewing more the NESPi case itself, and less about the Raspberry Pi since I don't think I'm qualified enough to make a full review of that yet.
The NESPi 4 case has been one of the more anticipated cases for the Raspberry Pi 4 but does it live up to its expectations?
The Retroflag raspberry pi cases have always been a great choice for anyone interested in displaying their raspberry Pi in a novel and retro-like way. This one is no different.
In the box you get the case, SSD enclosure, fan, screwdriver and all be necessary USB components for the ports in the case. Almost everything is included, except for an SSD, SD card, and raspberry pi of course. It has a safe shutdown script feature, and support for USB 3.0. On top of all this, the case comes with very clear instructions on how to put it all together.
The case itself is made out of really high-quality plastic and is very detailed all-round. I was really impressed with how well made it is, it feels really solid and compact and is fun to just fiddle around with. One thing I could complain about is the unused 4th USB slot. Ideally, I would've at least put it on the back of the case, but it would need another adapter, so I can understand why it wasn't done.
Using RetroPi the fan kept everything relatively cool on all the games I tested, overclocking shouldn't be an issue. For me, it usually didn't get much over 60°C. Compared to other cases, it might not be the coolest option out there, but it doesn't get too hot anyway.
Overall, this case is a great option for people wanting a novel case with a great SSD enclosure feature that not a lot of other cases have. For people who aren't interested in the retro aspect, it might not be the best option, but ultimately this case has a lot of great things going for it.
