Periodically changing out the batteries is also a smart plan.
Once a year orso.

It was either a dead battery or it *actually went off*.

It was going nutso buttso when I woke up, screaming random crap I couldn't decipher because I was covering my ears and yelling

I honestly don't know, it's not my job to maintain them.

If it's not your job to maintain them then why suggest testing your detectors in the first place?
Kinda contradictory.
Besides, it is your job to get them to prevent yourself from suffocating in your sleep when there's a house fire.
Then it should also be common sense to replace batteries.

Idk mate, I simply value me life over not being arsed to "maintain" them.

I can't reach the detector to get it down... wait can I? ...Nope. Just out of my reach, I'm not gonna jump while on a wobbly chair.

it was more a joke tbh, "test them or be annoyed". But they are important, yeah.

It's been chirping though for the past hour and nobody knows how to make it shut up. And my mother doesn't want me touching it :P
