You do have to consider that reproduction carts on AliExpress are something to be weary about, especially flashcart clones, such as the EverDrive. There's been discussion about clones and repro Ali carts having bad voltages or non-beveled edges that could wreck your pins after enough insertions.

As for reproductions made from real cartridges, like, for a Super Nintendo or Genesis, those are fine if they use EPROMs with the correct voltage input. The myth about reproductions "damaging" your game console is overexaggerated from die-hard collectors.

Unfortunately, if it's a game you're really trying to find but you just can't find one for a decent price, then those two are kind-of your only options, but I would say do your research first before you consider it.

The N64 scene acts like repros are a great sin. I've been rocking repros for half a decade. They get the job done. Ironically, the new games coming with the ModRetro M64 will most likely be the same quality as the current Aliexpress carts.

What is wrong with a repro? It's literally just a ROM reflashed to it.

The real problem is the counterfeit carts sold as genuine, otherwise I think repros are great for what they can do, especially when you have the hardware that lets you reflash ROM chips.

but honestly why not just buy a summer cart?

If your goal is not to play original games - it doesn't make sense to buy a bunch of repro carts

if repro carts make you happy that's fine - but to me it's a bit like printing your own yugioh card collection

Having a flashcard is certainly the best value, no arguing against that.

I bought one of those $50 bootleg everdrives a few years back, and now I'm buying a summercart. In the end, I should have just bought the ever drive to begin with

(the summercart didn't exist back then)

@x65943 the same reason why I make game cards for my Steam games. I enjoy the feeling of swapping games. For me, the collection I'm building is my "end of life" collection. I have no plans to sell. This is my old-man, I'll play this shit till I die stuff.

it would be neat to have a bunch of repro carts

I'm so cheap tho I wouldn't even spend money on a collection of repros haha

although I do have a couple and have bought some for friends. I have noticed they weren't well received tho :(
