I think it's okay. I hear that there's often drama on some instances, but it is completely decentralized so you fully have the choice to be independent from them, and use a different instance or host your own.
However, I have no need or interest in having a social media profile like that myself. I only occasionally view some posts or users without logging into an account. It's not a problem to do so, compared to X.
