The most effective way to have people look at something is telling them to not do it.

A questionable picture to say the least. I don't think it belongs here.

Why? It is from the anime derived from that manga. Shocking image, but truthful and realistic, aimed at awakening consciences about the dangers that still threaten us now.

This is a forum for the general public including children/teenagers. I just expressed an opinion: To me it is inappropriate on the Temp. Thankfully I'm not responsible for moderation! To be honest, if I had an own internet forum and this image appeared… I wouldn't know what to do: It is not blatant against any rules or something that must be deleted.

And… truthful and realistic? What is it supposed…

…to be? The mentioning of Hiroshima automatically makes one think of nuclear weapons. If so: True is that those cause death, havoc, destruction, agony, suffering. Still, this disgusting animation hardly is an accurate representation of a (nearby) nuclear explosion, even less than Sarah Conner becoming a skeleton in her dream in Terminator 2 (the devastation on the model city is pretty well done on the other hand).

It is obvious that I was referring to the atomic danger and its devastating effects; danger looming more than ever here in Europe. But do I really have to explain everything? Some thin messages need to be caught "on the fly", intuitively.

"But do I really have to explain everything?"
It might be obvious to you. For me it was just a disgusting animation that I'd never have associated with nukes without a keyword

I said this before: My greatest fear is that I live nowhere near a primary target. I'm not afraid of death, but of agony and suffering. Being in the center of the blast radius of an H-bomb is less terrifying than being further away.

Some germans now are for storing US-American nukes here in the country. Not even brains for 10ct: If trying to do a first strike with weapons of mass-destruction against an enemy with equal firepower, what will be some of your preferred targets? Trying to destroy the enemy's ICMBs before they can be fired! (It wouldn't work, and if it did, the counterstrike comes from submarines).

Anybody should know by now that nuclear war can't work. Even less than conventional war.
But the nukes haven't been disassembled and banned forever... 'cause the others didn't do it.
It is hard to not fully despair of humanity looking at such things.

Arguably great achievements of human intellect: Hahn, Meitner, Einstein... Theories about the general composition of the very small (sub-atomic) and the very big (whole universe). Ideas like nuclear fission (and fusion understanding the stars) are brilliant. Building the most terrifying weapons on the other hand - not so much.

You say you are not close to a possible strategic target, and you fear a slow death rather than an instantaneous one (this applies to everyone): but this you do not know for sure. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were also unexpected and unimaginable targets, absolutly hit at random. 😫

I know you sometime dislike my (hopefully) logical approach
A question of optimization. Yes, I know how this sounds in context. Switching all feelings/morals off:

An attacker will fire nukes into the direction where they cause the most damage to enemy military + civilian infrastructure. If they threw away all inhibitions: Directly onto the largest cities to cause the most deaths.
None of these is near to me.

Nah, I appreciate the logical/rational approach but softened by a touch of sentiment and humor. 😊 Anyway, I bitterly note that no one here knows that manga or wants to help me. 😭
