I mean, Sunshine and Galaxy are far more linear, and the former has the gambling room in the hotel, the lily pad area, and the pachinko area, while the latter has six motion control Stars and the timed Stars - yeah, no, frustrating bullshit. Galaxy also introduces the useless Rosalina, which is another strike against it.

Odyssey has the various Trace-Walking missions, volleyball, skip rope, Breakdown Bridges, Secret 2D Treasure and 2D Boost from Bullet Bill...just too many to hope to catch up to 64 DS's greatness.

I just wish it had the original game's controls and jump physics. Hopefully with the decompliation someone will eventually port all of DS's new content over to the N64.

True enough; dpad movement, even when using an analog stick via Wii U VC (or 3DS Circle Pad via backwards-compatibility), isn't ideal at all, and I could never do that sudden backflip thing I've seen many people do in 64. In terms of controls alone, yeah, Odyssey's far superior, but gameplay...64 DS all the way.

Oh, and grinding white shiny rabbits to unlock the empty room is perhaps the most frustrating 64 DS gets, due to being tedious instead of actually difficult/challenging; reducing it to, like, 3 bunnies would be better too.
Still far better than Sunshine, Galaxy and Odyssey's most-frustrating bits, though.

There's also no way to track Castle Secret Stars, come to think of it, so I needed to keep a text file open on my computer and tick off the ones I've gotten - add a tracker for that in, as well, in a theoretical remake (of a remake).

It's not actually about d-pad movement, it's everything else. Jump dive is essentially non-existent, long jump into a wall bonks you instead of letting you wall kick off of it, side-flip can't be done nearly as quickly anymore, stuff like that. And that annoying thing Mario does sometimes where he does a wide u-turn when you want to turn around. Movement just feels terrible.
