I guess horrid text speed, awful pacing, horrendous visuals, unimpressive level design (in the first half, anyway) and other annoyances just aren't a thing in your world.

Does the math here get a wrench thrown in it with mention of things like the Project Restoration for MM3D?

Maybeee- but honestly, the restoration patch just... made the game easier x3
@HylianBran when has anyone e v e r cared about text speed? It doesn’t make a difference.
Awful pacing- Nintendo isn’t known for having the best is all their games.
Visuals... it’s an N64 game sir.
Level design- I just don’t like the swamp area.
But either way-

I mean... everyone I’ve talked to who didn’t love Majora’s mask- they were just all picky for stupid things or were too slow to work with the (very large) time limit. I only had to reset twice total in the dungeons on my first playthrough.
But as I said, I don’t care about the gameplay. The atmosphere and the characters is why I love the game.
It won in every aspect except perfect gameplay

Meanwhile you look at ocarina of time- oh wow some princess gets fucked and a man has to save her again
But OOT’s gameplay is where it won-

I will say however, that I’ve played much more OOT than Majora’s Mask. But in the long run, I’ve always enjoyed Majora’s mask more. Except for that hecking save system- that’s what really ruins the 64 version for me

I honestly think a lot of the people who didn't like Majora's Mask didn't realize there was a song to slow down time or simply forgot. Because I can agree that without it, there's not enough time.

(1) If you don't care about the horrifically awful text speed in Ocarina of Time, then you clearly have several times the patience for terrible design than me. Everyone else I've talked to about this game has also agreed with me that the text speed is awful, and I have multiple friends who gave up on the game altogether because of the horrific text speed.

(2) Your smugness really is astonishing to me. The fact that anyone could tolerate it to this degree in 2021 blows my mind. And Nintendo has consistently delivered pour pacing in their games? Where did this come from? Even then, that doesn't mean the terrible pacing present in this title is excused.

(3) The smugness on display for your comment on the visuals is also astonishing to me. "It's an N64 game sir" implies that you think all games on comparable hardware from that time period look awful, which I find downright offensive.

(4) I will now list MUCH better looking and performing Nintendo 64 and PlayStation titles from the same year with primarily 3D visuals, all of which likely had a significantly lower budget.

(5) Crash Bandicoot: Warped
Metal Gear Solid
Banjo-Kazooie
Resident Evil 2
F-Zero X (which even hits 60fps)
Brave Fencer Musashi
Star Wars: Rouge Squadron
Spyro the Dragon
Mario Party
Gex: Enter the Gecko
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (which also hit a silky-smooth 60fps and feels great)
Panzer Dragoon Saga

1. I do have patience
And I’m not gonna lie- giving up on a game for text speed is... pathetic. Like- Jeez- how impatient can people get?
2. :smug dance:
2.5. They had quite a few titles with... less than ideal pacing. Difficulty-wise at least.
Although they generally aren’t the first titles that would come up in conversation

3. I find the N64 graphics quite impressive for the time they came out- and I’d be fine if every game I played for the rest of my life looked like them.

3 again. Unlike most, I crave that nostalgia factor- I like playing older games at their original resolution. Most nowadays are too bitchy to enjoy anything at less than 720p. And people think “1990’s game looks bad today” on a console that ran a 95mhz~ cpu is a valid argument as to why they shouldn’t play a certain game.

4. Ocarina of Time was 20FPS because it pushed the console so hard. That’s also why they couldn’t make it the prettiest. If you did a little studying on the Zelda 64 games and development, you’d find a few valid reasons.

5. I don’t think PlayStation games are a valid argument- they used different technology and were by a different company. F-Zero X...
Man- Try making an N64 games that looks and runs better than OOT. Or better yet- make a mod yourself that gets OOT and MM to run at 30 on console. I’d love to have one.

6. To be fair however- I’m just not picky. I can do VR at 14FPS on the lowest settings, while even the most hardcore VR users that aren’t me would be sick for hours afterwards.
Back on topic
Well... the games look fine to me. Those HD texture packs for emulators... they always make the N64 games look ugly in my opinion.
As for gameplay- well, all I can really say is that Majora’s Mask isn’t a good game for pricks.
Mama Dizzys

The dungeons are mediocre and there’s not nearly enough- but the game... I feel was more about the side quests, the characters, the story
7. Gex is god. It’s unfair to compare Gex to even modern-day games

Ocarina of Time does not push the technical prowess of the N64. All of the new assets in Majora's Mask look significantly better, but I still find it kind-of embarrassing that neither game can maintain a stable frame rate. Nothing about Ocarina of Time demands that low of performance.

Yeah...
That’s why I’m overclocking my N64
