ace attorney, grim fandango, etc, there's a lot of good games in the genre. if you wanna get weird, you could even file some newer games as existing only because of point and click, ie. life is strange, the walking dead...
Ace Attorney's great (the 3DS line has all six main entries), though only Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice have "chapter select" as an option, allowing you to skip parts you don't like on repeat playthroughs. 999 and Virtue's Last Reward are also stellar games, if you don't mind death and gore.
Apparently, the "Zero Escape: The Nonary Games" bundle (containing 999 and VLR) is available on Windows, alongside the PS4 - this is the best way to play those two games.
The third game, Zero Time Dilemma...eeeeeeehhh. Nah. Drops and changes elements from VLR, and is just too gory for me to handle. Just stick with the duology bundle.
I think in text based games from the early 2000s, a lot of personality comes through the little individual beep tones each character’s text has. 999 did that on the DS at least. I remember that being an awesome detail back in the day.
