I don't even know where I learned this life pro-tip. But since I know consciously that what I make must make myself first happy before anyone else, I'm slightly more motivated to work on stuff. Give it a try. But be aware, that if it's your first time knowing this, it'll be really difficult.

Ah, just remembered:
I don't really know how and why this works, but here is *my* understanding, from experience: you make yourself really happy and proud, and then think about that if it makes yourself *this* happy, how happy could you make your current and future fans?

But this is just my view. The reason this life tip takes a long time to work the first time is because you need to realize this meaning.

that is the problem you are talking about ;w; I used to be able to satisfy myself without really even needing to show anything to anyone and I was just happy with what I was doing, but it just crept and crept and crept more towards pleasing others as the goal and now its impossible and I need others approval all the time x'3

its like when you start to participate in something like youtube, having something impressive to show suddenly becomes the main goal, views, likes and what not, and it has just kinda hollowed out what I feel inside . . .

Yeah, I know that it sucks that you can't reach as wide audience as you want.

I managed to mostly accept that not everything I make is successful. Although there are *some* heart-crushing things which turned out to be the complete opposite, but sometimes someone's trash will be other's gold - years, or a fucking decade - later.

Also one of the reasons youtube rounds off stat numbers is for mental health reasons. You should strive for a good fanbase, not maximizing numbers. This is not cookie clicker :P
Edit: fanbase quality matters more than size, although both can be important

I know this is a "why are you booing me? I'm right!" thing, but it's something you'll have to accept.
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
the only reason why I even care about a large audience, is if you don't have lots of people to back you up, anyone can disprove your work as being worthless x3 that's why I feel I need the numbers to prove otherwise ;w;

Bloody 420 character limit. I wrote several paragraphs into this small box >.<
Well get ready for spam I guess, as I'll have to break down points into multiple posts...

I have a few counterarguments against that statement:
- views and subscriber counts are just numbers... not all of your subscribers will watch/care, and not all watchers who care will be subscribers. [
Sono
Sono
] this causes a discrepency, which means that the view count and subscriber count are just "peasant blindness" (as we call it in Hungarian). this is why nowdays youtube performance is measured in "engagement" instead of just numbers
Sono
Sono
- fanbase reactions can be grouped into 4 categories: positive (much like), negative (much dislike), neutral (nobody cares too much), and split (there is a noticable grouping of much like and much dislike groups). [
Sono
Sono
] assuming that your fanbase has a size bigger than two, you should always be able to feel which group your works belong into. although "neutral" is the worst one, as it's the hardest to differentiate from noise, as "neutral" comes from lack of data. [
Sono
Sono
] that doesn't mean your thing is bad, it just means that either nobody cares (in which case they can suck dick), or it's something that the fanbase already knows you can do (in which case they probably like it, just not enough to make big voice about it, so it turns into data noise)

I missed a point: this (the above blob of text) is also why you can see that the "quality" of the fanbase is more important than the quantity: you can have 1mil fans if they are all stupid and just meme around without "judging" your work.

Edit: the correct wording is "you can have 1mil fans if they are here only for the memes, not the (quality of) work"

Thanks for your insight :3 I guess you are right :3 I needed this explanation :3

Realizing my slight mistake, do yourself a favor, and do a "homework" where you make sure that what I said is also agreed by people whose opinions you trust. Just to make sure what I said could not cause more harm.

Edit: only ask *some* people, you don't need all, and probably even shouldn't, for your own sanity. Only some, like 2-5, or max 6.

I think other people have told me the same thing too all along ;w; just not so thorougly ;w;

I remember vin said "I just try to improve and have fun with what I do" ;w;

Yeah, I usually write very dry and offensive walls of text, so I'm happy you managed to look past my difficult-to-read dry insult-worthy text to see my point.

I didn't find it insult worthy awww! and I think an explanation that is not grounded in emotions is exactly what I needed to hear ;w;
