i appreciate that you do free access weekends. I love ps2 texture packs and realize the time and effort that goes into creating them but i see it as a hobbist point of view and i just cant justify paying someone for the packs.

call me cheap or whatever but im a retro hobbiest.

i wish that more people wouldnt be trying to monetize these texture packs and the community would be more open about sharing them.

The way i see it is.. doing these packs requires playing through the whole game, every menu, every tiny little side quest, every little inch of a game to pull up these textures, some of us replace the buttons manually, spend exorbitant amount of time playing some games that we get requested to do just to make a pack for them even if we don't have any interest in them.
We also go back and fix some of our older packs when requested by people, Some games get a complete overhaul treatment where we have to manually go in and replace textures with newer, better looking textures sometimes sourced from the developers or artists of the games themselves (Yes, I have done this)

I understand the argument of "Well, you just use an AI Program to upscale the files"
It's a little more than that as mentioned above.. We also have to pay for our Storage when hosting these files manually..
And then to top it all off we end up getting Nasty comments from people who have never even tried making one.
I personally only request donations if I get a Request from someone, But think of it this way..
Why would i work on something like "American Idol: The Game" for free? it's a complete waste of time.

I get why Bl4ckH4nd is doing this for his patreon, and i'm just lucky i've only had 1 instance of someone selling my packs..
This is an ongoing thing and there's a reason donations for requests are a thing.
I've only ever received 2 donations in total since starting years ago and that was because I did every single SOCOM Game for PS2 lol.. including XBox button replacements for the games..
I Personally took a massive break from doing this because I had so many people expecting me to just take on requests for free and they'd ask me to do insanely long games similar to The Sopranos or Persona 3/4, Dragon Quest 8 etc..
it's not as simple as downloading the files online and putting them in a converter. We all have a life outside of this.

in the end of the day.. if you don't want to pay someone to do your request..
Find out how to make texture packs yourself, it's a learning experience.

for the record I have never requested a game to be HD textured or for button replacements etc. I have picked up HD texture packs for what people post for free out of the goodness of their hearts. I fully understand the work and dedication that goes into complete a project from 1% to 100%. its easy to get started on something but it takes alot of work to actually finish and get to 100% where your happy to put your stamp of approval on something if you take pride in your work.

all im saying is that i appreciate that some of you guys still do this for the community. we live in a shit world where everything is getting more expensive and time is the most expensive commodity. bills dont stop and the cost of breathing goes up by the day.

I bought of ton of ps2 games that ive never even played that just because I am a collector. seeing these packs revived my interest to go back into my ps2 catalog and play some games that I have never played and replay some I havem't played for over a decade.

It has brought me joy in a time where I havent had too many outlets where I can find joy without spending tons of money to get that joy. Im not trying to take a swipe at people who have their reasons or personal choices for doing something. Im just trying to say thank you from my perspective because I am cheap and wouldnt have been able to enjoy some of this stuff if it was gated behind a paywall.

Yeah thats fair, I mean, I honestly take on alot of requests that are easy to do for free as its not too much of an issue. Or I'll at the least test the textures to make sure its doable before even trying to do them. Its just when its comes to massive jrpgs, 20 to 30 hour+ games or games that are difficult in the dumping process etc.. where its abit of a fine line that requests some sort of donation especially if it wasnt in our wheelhouse of ideas of even touching. I fell in love witg Texture packs thanks to this forum back in the day and wanted to take it on and do it myself and I havent looked back, its been refreshing.

Completely understandable. Its why alot of us tend to just make lists of games that we plan to do on our own accord in hopes that someone had some type of childhood memory with it. For example I recently finished my Rugrats Royal Ransom pack.. I never played it as a kid, but I know alot of people loved it growing up, it also coincided with the release of Retro Rewind that recently came out so figured its a great time to make it. Had a look at the WWE Games recently cause someone wanted XBox buttons in the games, however ive had to give them the news I couldnt do it due to a texture issue. Was gonna do it for free but sometimes the software is against us haha whenever I have the chance to do something I know even a few people will relate to ill do it. Like I said its just when its something I wouldn't dream of doing due to complexities or is 20 to 30 hours long that I'd request a form of donation for it but yeah donations are mainly to just keep us going and pay for the storage for us to host these files which honestly isnt much money at all.

Absolutely, honestly if it wasnt for Bl4ckh4nd I wouldnt have been able to start doing these packs, he genuinely got me started on GBATemp with texture packs so kudos to him! He taught me everything I know.
Thank you from us all for appreciating what goes into it, as alot of us get pretty burnt out from this sorta why I took a long hiatus from this for a solid year.

I was looking at tokyo xtreme racer 3, does the size of the texture pack, 3GB total consist of every vehicles? Is there a way to reduce the texture pack size, like if it possible to cover only cars, and not background stuff like road, etc?

It's possible, yes. If you just keep the car textures and delete everything else.
