I have this usb HDD hooked up to my wii u via y-cable and it just has trouble loading games. the only game i could get to work was just dance 3 and mario kart wii only worked once for me. when i try to launch another game it just goes straight to a black screen. I tried every troubleshooting method and still nothing so now im starting to think my HDD is the problem. Im going to try moving the games to my sd card and see if it works there.

all y-cables are technically non-compliant for USB. It's possible to get really bad ones that don't work the intended way. Did you buy a "cheapest random option from general store" one? If it came with your drive you can probably rule it out, but the fact that some games launched once and not again makes me suspect your cable.

I picked a cable from www.l-com.com, price was fine, shipping sucked since they really exist to sell in bulk to offices, but product quality is very reliable.

My experience is you want the data cable in port 0, without exception. When I do everything identical except operate with data out of port 1, even when I get something to launch here and there, I get issues. Not the same as what you're describing, but similar.

I think it's the HDD, the y cable works fine with my pc and i moved the games to the SD card and they all play fine. I just ordered a 2 tb hdd from the usb loader gx compatibility guide so i will see how it goes.
