Yes I have discovered thatGood luck, old Pokemon games are written only in Kana

Nice! I hope you enjoyed your trip to Japan, I'll be going there in a couple of monthsI visited japan, I could say some simple sentences like
where is the bathroom, good morning, this isn't my train and so on - as well as obviously reading kana that was english based - like road signs about curbs, or gasoline reading "regular"
funny enough my chinese was probably more helpful owning to my ability to read a lot of the kanji (although not necessarily being able to pronounce it the japanese way)
I discovered in major centers everyone spoke english to some extent, and that in outlying towns/villages my skills weren't really enough to discuss particulars like ordering foods outside of the most basic items
I'll probably still study some japanese, although my primary target language remains chinese

my japanese skill isn't really high enough to have conversations in the traditional sense, but I can absolutely say I wanted to speak chinese for every single word lolNice! I hope you enjoyed your trip to Japan, I'll be going there in a couple of months.
Just out of curiosity, since you’re learning Chinese, did you ever find yourself using a Chinese word instead of a Japanese one during conversations? That happens to me a lot when I speak Portuguese, I often accidentally use a Spanish word since I’m learning both languages.
