Firmware 22.1.0 released for Switch and Switch 2, features unprecedented levels of stability

A little sooner than expected, Nintendo has released the latest firmware for their Switch and Switch 2 systems. On the surface this appears to be a smaller one, bringing back everybody's favourite patch note.

Patch Notes said:
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

This update comes right on the heels of Atmosphere's latest release, and the advice as always for owners of the original system remains to not update until we know the firmware is either compatible, or an update has been released. Switch 2 users however can enjoy the stability this brings without concern.

OatmealDome covered some updated and fixed user icons as well.
It disabled handheld boost mode for Tomodachi Life Living the Dream demo
Somebody really should tell Nintendo that the general concept of a changelog is to include... Y'know, changes?

Interesting to hear some tangible things have been updated if nothing else.

I was wondering why it suddenly looks worse than before. This explains it. Really weird update.
I think it was announced before that the full release wouldn't have Handheld Boost Mode enabled so people could make use of the touch controls. Having said that, the game also has a specific patch for Switch 2 to enable 1080p in handheld anyway. I guess that part just never made it to the demo.

well at least it's a minor tweak to atmos to fix but i think with sciresM out of the picture atmos breaking updates will be much more frequent

They're vague on purpose I guess either because they think their users are idiots or because they don't want to give hackers hints, prettymuch anything that is not a direct user interface change is omitted. It's always been this way

In addition, detailed patch notes of what got fixed just invites people to go "wow look at all these things they had to fix, this must be buggy software". I'm not making this up, that happened to Factorio because of their detailed patch notes and bug fixes, even though that game is extremely stable.

They don't want to give even the smallest hint to hackers possible.

Probably also why you don't have themes because of the history with themehax on 3DS. No browser even though previous systems have one, sounds like a downgrade, but yep. Possible hacks.

So it could be the most minimalistic system possible. No Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney, etc. Probable hacks like on PS4/5.
It sucks, because it would make the Switch 2 a more valuable system.

And yes as I said, very vague to avoid giving accidental hints, even the smallest one.

Something Like:
  • Some corrections added to prevent tampering with the system integrity. WE ARE LOOKING AT YOU ATMOSPHERE
  • General system stability improvements to reduce the user's freedom.
