What I mean is games where you can even win scripted fights if you have the skill.

Now I know they exist for a reason but that's no excuse to not let someone dedicated/skilled enough to skip a large chunk of the game or achieve an alternate ending by winning one.

Okay, I don't get this one. It's only a scripted fight if the outcome is known in advance, isn't it?

Like... Iirc deus ex had you pick how you approach a situation. Does that mean it's still a scripted fight of the expectancy leans toward certain outcomes?

Uhhhhh Sekiro comes to mind. I don’t think you get an alternate ending for it but you can win. The latest Shiren the Wanderer game starts on the final fight of the story dungeon and you can win from it with some luck and previous game knowledge, starting your adventure in the postgame.

Elden Ring also has an initial fight you’re supposed to lose that you can win for a decent early game weapon.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice comes to mind. Winning the scripted fight doesn't change the outcome, but alters the cutscene.

Lol, got ninja'd.

It's scripted* for the majority (99.99%) of the players, those not unemployed enough to grind a boss for 30 hours straight just to say fuck you to scripted fights where you lose regardless of your skill.
i guess they mean like in Mega Man X, you're supposed to lose the battle against X in the beginning but what if you were able to beat them?
Exactly.

So if I beat this Sekiro boss, I get to finish the game "early" (minus all the grinding)? Elden Ring technically fits but I'm looking for a bigger reward. Still gonna buy all 3 though, so thanks! Edit: Maybe not Sekiro...

That's a bummer. If I'm putting in effort I want a commensurate reward.
In Bravely Default 2 you get a special ending if you beat Adam in the prologue.
Buying!

Well, this is why I loved Pokemon Legends Arceus - no longer were all wild encounters forced, you could berry down overpowered pokes and catch them and USE them (albeit them not listening to all of your commands) and that system seriously cut out most of the typical grind.

Damn-near most Monster Hunter games since gear only helps your survive your mistakes and kill things faster, but core gameplay is knowing your and their positioning to a T, so you can pwn later mons with starter gear and skip grinding mid stuff.

I love games that allow skilled cheese, and it doesn't have to be sweaty cheese like overcoming a scripted defeat since those are usually in the beginning of most games and just don't let you skip enough of the grind ahead.

Gosh Generations Ultimate comes to mind. I remember the quests the Fabulous Four come in where you can technically beat them if you put your mind to it. Bloody love the series.

I recall one of the Devil May Cry games had you fight the final boss in the beginning and you could actually win the fight, though I don't think the fight would be considered scripted as much as that the boss is just insanely strong.
If you did beat the boss the game ended there and you got an ending and the credits.

And, albeit pro, players aka TeamDarkSide, beat World without taking ANY damage, thus with naked nooby gear. Only thing MH doesn't proverbially allow is to fight the boss first.

Recently tried to play stellar blade and almost puked. Another slow and clunky boresouls. Difference between normal and hard that all eneimies have 3 times more health and that's it. bleh.

Then played Homura Hime. Freaking indie game in unity.
Chick is 100 times more pretty, combat is lighting fast, gameplay is like DMC meets Touhou. Only two difficulty modes and both can gonna heat your ass like only Ghost and Goblins previously could

Rune Factory games! You can pretty much beat the entire game without planting a single crops (aside from tutorials). :rofl2: 3 and 4 remasters are really really good!
