A controller for your thoughts - win a free controller!

It's around that time of the year I try to be a more productive person, and with that comes the question of where that productivity should be directed. Courtesy of @AKNES I have a controller to give away, with the winner being able to pick from 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C (Bluetooth or Wireless), GuliKit's ES Pro, Elves 2, or Elves 2 Pro, or EasySMX's D05. On top of this, the administration have also decided to give three lucky runner ups a year of GBAtemp patronage, complete with ad-free perks! So what am I asking of you for a chance to win any of these lovely things?

The criteria is simple. You'll need to have been a member before this thread went live. If you're reading this as a lurker, I encourage you to sign up and join in with the larger community. You might not be able to join this giveaway, but there'll be more down the line. For those already here though, you'll just need to reply to this thread, and your reply will need the following information:
  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to
  • Your favourite ROM hack
  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
If you can manage that much, you'll have your shot at the prizes! It might all seem a bit random, but it's handy to check in every so often to see where interests currently lie. If we see there's big interest in a given game, we might go more out of our way to post smaller updates or trailers as they release. If a ROM hack has a bunch of recommendations, we might take a bit of time to feature or review it. It's all good to know.

You'll have a week to enter, with entries closing Friday the 27th of March at 8pm in the UK. I'll pop a threadmark down to make it clear where the cut-off is, and announce the winners on Sunday the 29th of March. All winners will be both tagged and DM'd, so feel free to turn off notifications for this post after putting your reply down.

A big thanks to @AKNES for supplying the choice of controller for giveaway. If you're interested in joining their Discord community where they run their own giveaways alongside providing customer support for the various things they sell, you can find a link below.

Upcoming game I’m looking forward to is Pokemon Wind and Waves, I’ve got enough to work through right now so having that on the horizon is fine by me.

My favourite ROM hack right now would have to be Pokemon Emerald Seaglass, but I have a feeling Lazarus might top it (and maybe Alola Seaglass eventually 👀)

It’s not strictly a piece of gaming tech but I love my ANKER Bluetooth speaker and I only recently put two and two together, realising I can pair it to my Switch 2. Makes handheld so much more immersive with the right game.

  • I'm not much of a modern gamer, there isn't really anything coming out that. I'm quite looking forward to, and I'm not quite in the loop of everything.
  • Favorite romhack is either Paper Mario TTYD64 or Pokemon Clover (It's so goofy)
  • I used to own a Steel Battalion Controller! Feeling its plasticiness and lightness though made me kind of realize making my own mech controller would be a better bet....

The questions seem interesting this time:

  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to:
If I'm counting only games with an actual release date, that isn't a remake or re-release, it would be "The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales", it seemed really promising from the demo.

  • Your favourite ROM hack:
This is a bit difficult, haven't played many recent rom hacks, I did start playing Lazarus recently and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't call it my favourite. I would say my favourite from the past few years would be "Digimon Crystal".

  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in:
I have several Digivices, including the Vital Bracelet and a ton of DiM cards, I do wish they made a more advanced smartwatch like device that was slimmer and waterproof.

Thank you for hosting another giveaway!

An upcoming game you're looking forward to:
Mina the Hollower looks pretty good!

Your favourite ROM hack:
Currently Super Metroid X Fusion. (Runner up would be Super Junkoid!)

A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in:
I really still like my 8BitDo SF30 Pro. Use it for almost every game that doesn't need an analog stick for movement.

Good luck everyone!

I'm in!

- An upcoming game you're looking forward to:
I'm can't wait to play the new Rhythm Heaven Groove!!

- Your favourite ROM hack:
I think it would be Crystal Clear, but damn have I sunk time into Tetris - Rosy Retrospection

- A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in:
I own an old Steam Controller, and while weird af, I still use it now. Pretty comfy for me tbh.

Looking forward to: Dead or Alive 7 (no release date announced yet :ohnoes:)

Favorite ROM hack: Pokémon Shiny Gold (or Shiny Gold X, both are tied for #1 in my heart; Runner-up Pokémon Liquid Crystal). I used to make ROM hacks for that generation of Pokémon back then, too, and I can really appreciate the huge amount of effort that went into all of these projects, as well as others from that era.

Cool gaming tech you own/interested in: Retro Remake's MiSTER Pi has been an absolutely game-changer for me and my gaming setups. Being able to play pretty much any retro game platform I could want with high-accuracy on CRTs or modern displays, and with the low-latency SNAC interface, has been incredible for me.

Bubsy4D. No, I'm not joking. Demo was fantastic, Fabraz just doesn't miss when it comes to 3d platformers.

Not really played too many rom hacks. Maybe Turtles in time with the msu-1 audio if that counts.

3d cache on the AMD x3d chips. An actual innovation and a massive boost to games, instead of the usual just boosting clock speeds and making chips suck down huge amounts of power.

1) Upcoming game: Bubsy 4D
2) Rom Hack: Sonic 3C
3) Tech: I'm on the fence about picking up a relatively cheap handheld like the R36S.

The £20 I paid for someone as a gift was surprisingly good for the money when I tested it, but I'm concerned I'd use it so infrequently that it would be a waste, especially as I have an Analogue Pocket and Steam Deck, so it would really be just times when I want something 'throw away' e.g. going away for the weekend.

Note: I don't want to use a phone due the case, battery life and comfort.

Update:

Sod it, saw one on Amazon for £22 so bought it, hopefully the damn thing will stop bugging me now.

  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to: 007 First Light
  • Your favourite ROM hack: Pokémon Black & White 3: Genesis
  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in: I'm interested in the Steam Frame. Finally something to compete with the Meta Quest.

Upcoming game? A game of turning back time and re-living worthwhile game releases, of course! I'm out of the loop.

Favourite ROM hack? Mario Eclipse, of course! I wasn't the most impressed while playing it, but the memories are kicking in full swing. What a great project.

Cool gaming tech? MiSTer is some seriously cool tech, and having a board/SSone sure as hell beats having to deal with aging capacitors and other failing hardware of the supported computers/consoles/arcade machines. At least that's something current, which is what I'm guessing these questions are for! :creep:

Upcoming game I look forward to: Grand Theft Auto VI

Favorite Rom Hack: Pokemon Prism (for now, I suspect when Kaze finally drops Return to Yoshi's Island 64 in full, that that will be my new favorite rom hack of all time)

A cool bit of gaming tech I own: The Sharpin Switch Digital Pinball setup which docks your Switch 1 and turns it into a digital pinball machine. I can also pair a classic joystick pad and play great other horizontal-orientated arcade games with it as well. It's the shit.

Yuppie, another giveaway!

I'm definitely looking forward to Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream coming out next month. Some other (non-AAA) games that don't have a set release date but that I'm excited for are POLLYANNA and GIMMIKO.

Pokemon Quetzal is really the only ROM hack I have ever played (so I can play co-op Pokemon with friends), though I do want to explore some SMW hacks in the future.

I really like the Miyoo Mini+, it's pretty much the de-facto device I use now to play SNES/GBA and older games.

An upcoming game you're looking forward to
GTA VI just to see how much an open world game can advance since 13 years of the last game in the series.
Hopefully (I know I will be wrong) the online aspect can be centered around being fun and comunity based instead of an endless grind fest.

Your favourite ROM hack
There are many, but Super Metroid Redux (more controlled mapping options and gravity adjusted) is the one I'm trying right now and I like it.

A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
My DIY Gbs-control that I made myself, it was my very first soldering project and I use it on my PS2 and I love it, it's not perfect but it does the job and didn't cost that much to make.
