RetroAchievements add Wii game support, launch event to run between March and July

Adding achievements for older titles when played via emulators, RetroAchievements has garnered huge support from the larger retro gaming community since its initial launch. Support for Wii games was teased all the way back in 2024 when GameCube games were added to the free service, with it finally being added today along with a brief video. To get started you'll need the most recent Dolphin release in version 2603, as well as a RetroAchievements account. From there, you'll just need to sign in and start playing your legally-dumped library.

Exclusive event badges are also available for those who partake in the launch event for the new platform, with you gaining one point for each game you beat and two for each you master within the first four months. Collecting 15 points will award you a Bronze badge, 25 will net you Silver, 35 will net you Gold, and 50 will get you the Grandmaster badge. Certain longer games like Monster Hunter Tri and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn also feature a point multiplier, rewarding you for not sticking to the shorter titles.

somebody still cares about lame 20yo gimmick?
why is everyone on gbatemp so salty? every news thread gets the same cliche negative comments. I catch myself predicting what the comments will be before I click on it and I'm always correct. It takes effort to be this negative about everything

It’s not everybody, but the negative people are some of the more consistent lol. You’ll have a better site experience with a well curated ignore list.

Unfortunately, one outdated concept of forums are post counts, and because people like numbers going up they have to post something to have their post count going up. As a lurker myself its super irritating seeing the same few people posting negative stuff just to have their post count up. Also the 1 specific person in every Pokémon thread. You know who.

Scarlet's advice is pretty helpful. Just put the known offenders on your ignored list. This way, they'll only show up, when others fall for their bait and reply to them. You can even go a step further and ignore people who constantly interact with the negative people as well, if that's also happening too much.

RA greatly improves the replayability of old games for me, especially those that had little to none to begin with. Also, it isn't just about the traditional cheevos you get on something like PS, Xbox or Steam, it implements leaderboards for high scores and speedrunning in a lot of games too.

And I know, some challenges can be lame as fuck, but at the same time there are games with insanely fun challenges, the kind of thing I doubt even the original developers of those games would be able to come up with, which isn't surprising, since the people behind those particular challenges seem to know those games from top to bottom.

I hear people complaining that sometimes, after applying an English translation patch to a game, that game doesn't work with RetroAchievements.

Not a problem for me, since I do not use RetroAchievements at all.
retroachievements almost always supports english translations

To comment on the news instead of the people complaining about the news:

This is really cool. I think the RA folks have done some really incredible work and I'm glad to see it continue. At this point, there would only be what? 3ds and Wii U games before every Nintendo console has achievements to collect? That's awesome.
