How do we put measures in place to ensure this doesn't happen again without ending democracy? You can't just abolish the Republican party.

I suppose we could reform voting restrictions and abolish the electoral college. A true democracy.

Abolish the electoral college and the Senate. The Senate especially gives red states a significant advantage.

there needs to be a public register of everyone who was part of ICE during this era

No, I'm not talking hyperbolically. Let's be real here: ICE isn't doing it by accident anymore (provided they initially did). They're only there for political reasons, and that reason is fearmongering. They want everyone to just be too scared to protest, and that "they"...you can pretty much put a straight line between those thugs and Donald Trump.

Just refuse to play ball. If having terrorists in your area executing people they don't like is what the USA comes to, why the fuck would you WANT to be in the USA?
I can't speak on behalf of Canada, of course, but getting out of the States would legitimize actually driving ICE out.

I've seen some opinions which say they're trying to incite a civil war so that Trump can cancel the midterms. In any other timeline, it sounds like an impossibility. With Trump, nothing is too crazy.

I had my money on attempting to steal the midterms, but yeah...cancelling works just as well.

My bet is that it'll be less than two weeks before the next victim is executed. Most likely also in Minnesota, given how the population is still not submissive enough for the government.

Stealing only works if there is even a slight hint of the Republicans winning in the midterms. There isn't in the slightest. It will be such a historically embarrassing routing and repudiation. So they need to cancel it entirely to get what they want.

They're definitely losing the house, the only question is by how many seats. The senate would be amazing for them to lose as well, which we'll have to wait and see.

When they get the house, at least they'll kick out that nut-licker Johnson and can at least start impeachment. If they don't have enough in the senate, they can at least make him the first 3+ times impeached president.

I have been pretty disgusted with what a few people in the Trump admin have been saying about Pretti carrying, but it hasn't changed my mind about what happened or why. Theyre just trying to deflect blame i.e. politics. Pretti carrying a concealed firearm was only a component of the whole reason he's dead now. The most significant component is that while carrying a gun, he very unwisely chose to get in a physical altercation with cops. That's about the stupidest fucking thing any firearm owner can do. Carrying a concealed weapon requires a heightened level of responsibility to remain courteous, yielding, and exercise self-discipline to remain law-abiding. Many in ccw discussion and training environments talk about being "the quiet man" or "the grey man" when carrying, i.e. never stand out, never stir trouble. Pretti's behavior was the opposite.

Now, before someone comes back with "but he didn't deserve to die for what he did" - in this case I absolutely agree. He didn't deserve it. But he risked it. This is a prima facie case of police error. I don't think all those cops physically struggling with Pretti were aware that one of their group had already disarmed him when the shooting started, but it doesn't matter. They fucked up. But Pretti fucked up too. If you carry a concealed weapon, don't interject yourself into a physical altercation with cops. The outcome if you do will be of your own making.
