Donky Kong Encore for the Atari 5200. It's the absolute best version of Donkey Kong on the system.

Great game but far more difficult than the original Donkey Kong port from the 800XL 8-bit line.

I thought about making a new thread for this, but nah. This is fine.

First installment of the Japan trip goodies haul. As mentioned in posts above, it's my daughter and my wife who have been in Japan for months, not me. But they got home today, and brought me schwag. There'll be another post soon when the PS Vita gets unpacked, but this is what I can show you now. Also, I only have a few photos to show from the Nintendo Museum. They may have more, but they're sleeping off jetlag now.

Project! Paint and make your own Hanafuda cards!
1000002052.jpg

1000002056.jpg

From the gift shop, Nintendo Museum glass. It's really too small, except maybe for sipping whiskey. It'll be a display thingie in my office.
1000001986.jpg

N64 mug. This one I'm gonna use.
1000001990.jpg

1000001995.jpg

Ok, main event. This is the inspection sticker that was on the N3DSLL. No boxes checked = complete and no flaws.

1000001999.jpg

1000002000.jpg

You can see the box has been opened, but besides that the box looks like it could a new item for sale.
1000002011.jpg

And ... holy shit ...
1000002014.jpg

It really is ALL there. AR cards even, still in their bag.
1000002016.jpg

The console itself is just perfect. Did anyone ever really use it? I'm imagining some Japanese granny whose family bought this for her and she never touched it or something.
1000002023.jpg

Even the bottom.
1000002027.jpg

And screens (just some dust on top screen. No scratches.)
1000002030.jpg

1000002032.jpg

Are they IPS or TN, or mixed? This particular limited edition is usually dual IPS, but I won't know for sure for a while.
But they work and I don't see any dead pixels.

1000002036.jpg

Even for buying in Japan, the N3DSLL was expensive. $320. But considering it's condition, I'm happy with the deal.

That's it for today. As mentioned above, 3G PS Vita and maybe some other minor items still to come. (Don't expect the Vita to be this nice. It might be, but for $120 I'm expecting more like 'very good used' condition.

@Hanafuda - That is just AWESOME. I had no idea that Nintendo had a museum, but after thinking about it, it seems they should have one, ha!

The mug is great, and the glass? Definitely for liquor. That 3DS is in amazing shape, and yeah, looks like some old lady owned it but never touched it.

I know you and the family are wiped out, but when you get the chance, WHIP OUT THAT VITA AND SHOW US THE MONEY!!!

While we're on museums and collector's items and so forth, I got THESE from ClubNamco.com not long before Bandai acquired Namco. They made 2,500 of these babies and I bought quite a few. I even bought one for my mom who absolutely adores these shotglasses...

The Nintendo Museum is pretty new, just opened last October. You have to enter and win a lottery to get tickets. My daughter succeeded on her third try.

What a pain in the ass!!! Nintendass!!! :hateit:

It won't stay that way forever. It does make it harder to go, but it's nicer when you do. Daily crowd size managed, wait times kept reasonable. Plus you have to actually be in Kyoto to go there, so for anyone but the Japanese I think it's fair to say the Pacific Ocean is the biggest obstacle we face in visiting the Nintendo Museum.

I'll try to post photos of the Vita tomorrow, btw. I'm not disturbing them now. Been there, done that many times. They need to stay in bed until tomorrow morning, then they need to stay up all day tomorrow. Only way to beat it.

Indeed, jetlag blows. Funny comment about the Pacific Ocean, lol.

Ok, so here's that update post, Japan trip schwag haul episode 2.

But I was right ... this one's not in the potentially collectible, "1% survivor" condition like the N3DSLL I posted yesterday. (But this cost a lot less.)
1000002064.jpg

1000002063.jpg

But who cares about a box of you're just gonna mod the console and play the snot out of it, right? So let's move on ...

Ok....
1000002067.jpg

And here it is. As I expected, this one's genuinely used, but used well. It has some hand crud and dust here and there like any used handheld, but except for some very, very fine hairlines on the back that I couldn't even take pictures of, no scratches that I can see. It just needs a very meticulous cleaning. (This psvita came from a Sofmap store, which is much more a 'find a bargain' place like Hard-Off. The 3DS came from a more collector oriented retro shop.) I'd call it very good to excellent condition overall. The screen is perfect.

Joysticks look good but down in the creases around action buttons and seams ... yuck. But I can remedy that.

1000002085.jpg

1000002072.jpg

Oh and yeah, charger was in there too.
1000002069.jpg

Since this is a 3G model, i.e. PCH-1100, the now useless 3G module inside can be replaced with a PSVSD, which I've already ordered.
$120 for this PSVita, so I feel like I made out pretty good here.

From the Nintendo Museum gift shop, a couple more items. These keychains come on two sets, early era and later era Nintendo consoles. You don't know before opening what you will get, only which set it comes from. I got the SuFami and DSPhat. I was hoping for the GameCube, but this is fine. These cost about $12 each.

Last photo, from the Nintendo Museum. It's not perfectly vertically aligned, sorry I didn't take the photo. But it makes for a helluva lock screen on your phone. (Yeah, it's real stained glass.)

:unsure::unsure: How's the sound on the Vita ? :)

And, Do you need @x65943 to translate the squiggly lines ? :tpi::rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: jk

I only had it on for about 30 seconds, just on that language select screen. But there was some elevator / atmosphere music playing while that screen was displayed, and it sounded really good for a handheld. Stereo was evident.

I can mostly read those squiggly lines, but when I do hit the wall my wife or daughter will assist. I haven't done it yet but it also looks like English will be in the language choices, so non-issue. The Vita is region free.

BEST POST EVAR!!!

Hey chief, that PS Vita is looking FANTASTIC!!! It's been a long time in the making, looks like your daughter picked out a good one. :)

FIRST UP - Clean that puppy but good, then get a screen protector for it. THIS IS A MUST-HAVE. All of my Vitas have screen protectors that cover the whole face of the unit, and not just the screen itself. Additionally, this set also includes a protector for the rear touch-pad. Check the link below - they're inexpensive so get a couple of them so if you botch one installation you always have a spare or two...

Click Here For A Great Screen Protector

Second, get thumb-stick covers to preserve the life of the analog sticks. You can find a bunch on www.AliExpress.com

EDIT: Get a tough, molded case for your new gizmo. I highly recommend a PS Vita VAULT CASE:

Vault Cases Featured On eBay (click me)...

PS Vita Vault Case.webp

Basically, these things are pretty much bullet-proof. I have 5 Vitas and every one of them employs a Vault Case. They have a tough shell and a tough rubber interior which will not allow your Vita to budge in the case at all - it is seated tightly and firmly providing EXCELLENT protection. Do NOT buy a cheap piece of crap Vita case. The Vita is very delicate and you want to protect your investment with the best-protecting case you can get.

Along with the screen protector, these are the two most important purchases you will ever make for your Vita. Here are my cases...

Vault-Cases.jpg

(SORRY FOR THE DUST!!!)

A PS Vita Vault Case will run you anywhere from $24.99 to to $69.99 (on eBay at least), depending on condition and color.

Finally, get a grip for your Vita. It makes playing games much more enjoyable.

PS-Vita-Set-2.jpg

Grips:

PS-VITA-Grips.jpg

White-Grip-Shoulder-Buttons.jpg

These are two VERY DIFFERENT grips. I've had the black one since 2011, and got the white one about 7 months ago. BOTH OF THEM give a sense of holding a standard console controller, which means you'll warm up to either one the moment you place your new Vita into. The black one only features cut-outs for the shoulder buttons on the Vita, but the white one comes with an L2 & R2 buttons that makes using the rear touch-pad for any given button/funcitons just plain awesome. Just a heads-up on these things - they're great to have and you'll use them as often as you use the Vita.

Let us know how it's working out for you, and your initial thoughts on your beloved new toy!!!

Nice swag!

It's kinda cheating, but AliExpress has the keychains and I think you can choose what you want. Check the comments but they should be the real thing.

I already ordered a grip, it's one of those L2R2 types with the hinge and a top half that snaps on over the top of the Vita. I understand the Hori version is regarded by most as best, but practicably unobtainable these days. Anyway, from what I've read those snap tabs will break off if you remove the grip over and over, so I'm not in need of a dedicated case. The grip will be the case. And I rarely actually go "portable" with my handhelds, unless you count walking from my bedroom to the living room.

This is the one I ordered.

Screen protector though ... yessir I will.

looks like your daughter picked out a good one. :)

Ironically, guy at the Sofmap store was pushing her hard to get the 2000 series. Maybe he thought lighter and some pretty colors would make a girl happier? Anyway, she basically had to tell him to stop trying, that she's gonna buy the one her dad told her to buy lol.

Yeah I edited my post with pics and details. The black one is the same as my white one. You'll like it.

Since you're not gonna get a case, I do recommend, at the very least, a lanyard/wrist strap for the Vita. Don't wanna drop it!!!

Yeah I prefer the 1000's over the 2000's, as you can see in my above post...

Been a bit of time, a few pick ups

Bubba's Pancakes and Bacon Whiskey (70 proof) an interesting flavor promise though I heard it tastes more like pancakes than anything else, its a gift and they only had one left so I will have to wait to taste it

Knob Creek Smoked Maple Whiskey (90 proof) what a better combo for our pancake whiskey than some maple sryrup flavor, since crown royal discontinued their maple flavored bottle a long time ago decided to try this
