wow, it works! the sound quality is not stellar though, even compared to my old smarthphone, but i guess there is nothing to do about that, such is the 3ds sound chip...
oh, so thats why it was resetting for me then, but in my case, when i have powersaving mode enabled, moving the sliders in the program doesnt affect brightness at all, only when it is disabled...
well if i close and reopen the program the displayed values become correct, i would assume the program doesn't read the values constantly, only when you change them or when you open the program

don't quite understand how is it related but whatever. There seems to be some kind of a bug where the brightness sometimes ( usually after extensive slider adjustment ) resets back to the original 1-2-3-4-5 level depending on which was selected prior to tweaking, sometimes it resets instantly...
so the value of 255 (0xFF) is safe? makes my screen twice as bright compared to the default maximum and on par with my laptop and desktop monitor screens.
