    You have the option... update or not. It isn't automatic when you put disc in drive and try to run it. You can simply say no and remove the disc. or remove it if it ever asked.

    I'm positive. You can test this by running a game in gamma that would normally require you to update otherwise. If it asks you to update, simply refuse. It won't ask though. Promise.

    Yeah, w/ gamma you shouldn't have to worry about updates. I've never heard of anyone getting asked to update.

    How about Xi? That's the one I have installed. I have only tested Animal Crossing since I basically had that on hand. More "on hand" to come. So where will I be able to scroll left and right? Is this in the gc backup loader menu, or is it somewhere else?

    One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

    Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
