  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but resin's definitely way better for that
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
@handy333, Yes is fun, and handy to have. There are sites with thousands of free designs already also.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@handy333 it gets really fun when you start designing your own stuff
    +2
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you can DIY a 3d scanner using a smartphone even to scan in real objects but they might need some fixups to be printable
  • handy333 @ handy333:
    I think that's why I was interested.
I'll have to try to get one for around 50 bucks to get my feet wet.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think the iphones with lidar do a better job at that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
50 bucks would be tough i think
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yes need a plastic part that broke on something, pay and order it and wait, or just design it yourself and 3d print, is fun and rewarding.
  • handy333 @ handy333:
I have an iphone 6. I haven't seen anything beyond that.

    Maybe 100-130
  • handy333 @ handy333:
Can I build one like a computer?
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
anycubic has one on sale right now for $109
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
kinda like a computer yeah, but if you plug in a cable backwards your printer makes a horrible noise as the head moves the wrong way and crashes into the assembly the first time you turn it on :P
  • handy333 @ handy333:
Sounds like future me is screwing up.
  • handy333 @ handy333:
    again
  • handy333 @ handy333:
Wow, this thing came in a case and everything
  • handy333 @ handy333:
    built in speakers too
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i hated the assembly of my cheapo chinese 3d printer i think most of the ones from brands like anycubic come more assembled than that so the assembly is easier though
  • handy333 @ handy333:
Is there any toxicity with the plastics
    I should keep in mind?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
@handy333, If you have any Microcenter stores near you, goto 1 and they have a bunch of diff 3d printers on display and some will be printing even. But don't buy from there, order it online, will be cheaper.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
PLA, PETG and TPU all seem pretty non toxic and honestly you can skip ABS in favor of PETG
  • handy333 @ handy333:
I'd have to check if there's one in H
    ouston.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
ABS plastic only one of real concern, but don't need to use that normally.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
ABS Is the big one of the common filaments that makes potentially toxic fumes (the others are less common exotic filaments that you're not likely to ever encounter)
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
nylon might not be great either, but it's not a common filament and you need a bit of a fancier 3d printer to print it properly
  • handy333 @ handy333:
    I'll keep that in mind.
