    You're not doing anything wrong the 7.2.0 breaks the e-shop and the settings so you won't be able to access them if you update other than that everything else works.

    Only 3DS with firmware from 4.1 - 4.5 can play 3DS roms, any 3DS with a firmware above that can't.

    No you can't, the only know way to install the updates is with using a hardware mod you update to 7.2 then download the updates from e-shop then downgrade again to 4.x
