    had this problem with mine a while back first question is it jailbroken?, and what version is your touch if its jailbroken with 1.1.4 there seems to be a random bug with itunes where it would not detect the ipod, or detect it but not detect it as a touch, just give itunes a reinstall...

    i had the same problem found it has trouble with usb 1.0 ports luckily as soon as i got home my 2.0 ports read it fine
