    No, it wasn't a one-off. You can easily recreate it with any 3DS cart that's compatible with your 3DS and its region. Even after the bottom screen freezes, pulling the SD card does NOT stop it. It doesn't register that you ejected and re-inserted the SD card. So, it's unlike any crash so far...

    Found something weird: When I do the KIU cart freeze thing and eject the SD card, nothing changes at all, it registers that the SD card gets ejected but it still freezes anyway. You sure this means nothing?

    You probably won't be able to make it region free as you'd need a separate header from the HOME Menu, which when attempts recognize a game taps into the NAND filesystem which searches through a list and the headers available, you'd need something else first.
