    @dixeflatline tried it, no dice. I tried 1.7.6, but after installation it showed as 1.7.7 anyway? Then I tried the other available version on apt, 1.4.1, but it didn't work either.

    So apt update will never mess things up for you. Update updates the list of possibly upgradable packages. Apt upgrade actually downloads and applies the updates. Thanks for letting me know not to try 1.2, that was what I was going to try next. How's Lakka? I might head there until this issue...

    Gavin, the power button still does nothing in the default Unity environment for me. I tried using Kodi as a desktop environment, but the touchscreen has weird issues there (touching the top-right triggers a click in the top-left, directions reversed). Running it through Unity is the only way...

    Pressing the power button to sleep doesn't work for me. However, if I log off or lock the screen, the power button brings things back. Strange.     When I launch retroarch I just get a black screen with an _occasional_ yellow blur - should I reinstall? I thought Retroarch had some sort of UI now but I haven't used it since like 2014

    As it turns out, something went wrong when I flashed the image. I tried to do fancy things with gdd progress bars and probably messed it up. When I got home I used 7zip and win32diskimager and it worked. This thread is very helpful and friendly, thanks for the replies.
