choose trucha- if you are just updating the shop channel. I don't think its very useful to trucha patch IOS61.

Hacking Can I use the shop channel?

To enable the shop on 3.2, use WiiSCU. Just run it and select to install IOS61 and the new Shop Channel. The interface is fairly self explanatory.

Hacking I have a semi bricked wii here.

I would reinstall the proper IOS and System Menu combination. For example, for 3.2u you would install IOS30v1040 and then SystemMenuv289 .You can get the needed wads legally by using NUSD. The drawback of this approach is that it will uninstall preloader when you install the system menu wad,so...

    Hacking What should I do?

Downgrading to 3.4 serves no useful purpose. You may not need to downgrade at all. Try to update your cIOS to rev10 first. If you want to play "unofficial" games from your SD card, then also install a trucha-patched IOS60. You should be able to use USB Loader without the need to "re-upgrade"...

    Hacking help straighten me out

A wad file is a data container. They can contain all sorts of things, from IOS files to Channels. (reference:http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Data_Containers#WAD_Files ) The wad that you got with USB loader is probably a forwarder channel, though I can't say for sure without knowing what you...

Hacking How do I use wbfs manager

Same thing happened to me. To fix it, I manually downloaded and installed .NET 3.5 SP1 from Microsoft. This takes a long time. After installing the required framework, the latest version of WBFS Manager should install fine. Latest version available at this site: http://wbfsmanager.codeplex.com/

Hacking Can i with my Wii use Usb drive yet?

I believe you can install cIOS on 4.0 if the HBC is installed. Guide:http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=146735 (The System Menu downgrade is optional).

I'm not sure about freeloader, as I've never used it. I do know that you shouldn't just install IOS files randomly, hoping one will work. Do as kornychaos said; use a retail disc with a newer firmware version to upgrade the "correct way". Here are links to lists of games and their firmware...

Hacking Softmodded Wii w/ Starfall ... do I need Preloader?

You don't need preloader, but it might be helpful. It depends on what you want to do with your console. If you plan on installing pirated VC/WiiWare wads, then you should use preloader for its superior brick recovery options. If you just want to skip disc updates, starfall works fine for that...
