I think you're at least meant to make the main partitions needed. But you can then partition off custom drives that you could use for say. Adrenaline. Or an extra partition for retroarch stuff.
i mean, they likely allow it to work out the box because you may not have intenernet and just want to play some games, or simply test it before gifting, so out the box it works, but if you marry a new drive that isnt preconfigured out the factory...
