    See if any cartridge games will run, and if they do, go out and buy Shovel Knight. That comes with 9.8 fw. Just put it in and launch the game. It'll ask you to update.

    It sounds like a partial downgrade. See if any cartridge game will run other than smash bros. If cartridge games run, you can purchase a retail copy of Shovel Knight for $20, which contains fw 9.8. From there, you can try the downgrade method again until it works properly.

    MY n3ds xl came with 8.1j. It was the smash bros one. I ended up doing a case swap with an american system because 8.1j was too annoying.

    It has worked 100% of the time for me. The only problem I have is there's no way to exit some applications without a forced shutdown.

    It works fine for me on gateway 3.2.1 with the cubic ninja cia. I don't know where you heard that.

    Sometimes it's not the video that's the problem. The audio should be AAC at around 128kbps. I've used Plex to watch full 3D movies and it works and looks great as long as you encode your videos in handbrake/etc beforehand.

    I set the width to 800 and set the quality to constant 1500kbps 2-pass. I set x264 preset to placebo with a film optimization and high profile at level 5.2.     I experimented a bit with this and got The Hobbit 3D looking better than most 1080P YIFY encodes using 1500kbps and optimizing using handbrake's placebo settings. It was probably a bit overkill but it's actually completely watchable.
