that's right. just make sure it comes with the powertag (the version without one is more in line with what it's ostensibly meant for: modifying real amiibos, because that's all it can do).

You don't have to go through that process, however what that guy did didn't work for me. What I noticed is that when I used my Link amiibo and backed up its data, it gave me a very similar filename (you can see there's a date in it). As far as I can tell, even just copying the prefix isn't good...
if it's not against the forum rules, can you maybe drop us a link? I tried, but it's hard to search for powertag (lots of other unrelated products with that name) and if I search powersave i just get the unit itself. I'd be interested in buying a few more powertags if they weren't super expensive
