    Not necessarily, it could easily be a screen problem. A loose, damaged or disconnected screen cable will give the same symptoms. Do either screens flash when you try to turn it on? obviously you should try to turn the ds on while it's plugged in, just in case.

    it is possible to remove the metal encasement from the slot 1. you just have to desolder the four large pads connecting the metal to the motherboard and then pop it off the plastic.to do so gently pry a side up while holding the rest of the slot down.Its not hard to see where and how it's held...

    actually there is a magnet in each of the speakers.there is a sensor between the a,b,x, and y buttons (probably hall effect) which activates sleep mode when brought near a magnetic field.
