    On gateway, only card2 games (Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life, and VC roms) are RTS. Card1 games still need to exit properly in order to transfer save to SD card.

    Just setup 3 fake ssids in sysNAND, emuNAND can't overwrite existing ssids.

    Nothing should happen unless you have a 9.0 rom or cartridge because you can only update to higher system version. But if you want to test if you're in the right place, try to run a cross region rom, you should not be able to run it. Edit: Or you can create a new emuNAND 4.x to try it out.

    You can choose any rom from you micro SD card, but cross region rom won't work of course. Choose a rom that is the same region as you console, and launch it, it will ask for update if you system firmware is lower than the required version.

    US version of SSB, uploaded by Chiejina (aka jacobrails), it's in 3dz format, and has a public header. Edit: 3ds or 3dz format don't matter, both worked.

    I just want to confirm that updating emuNAND using rom also worked. I just updated my emuNAND to 8.1.0 using Super Smash Bros rom (same region of course). It didn't hang my system.

    You can update emuNand with retail cartridges using Gateway 2.0b1/b2 in classic mode. But I don't think it's possible with Gateway 2.1 and above. (Edit: It is possible.)

    0x1200 means offset 00001200, which is where you inject your cartridge id. And the 00000040 you said earlier correspond to 00001240 in a actual rom file.
