Hardware Mig Switch on Switch 2

I’d bet bans/enforcement and firmware security aren’t even the same department within corporate Nintendo. They’re most likely totally unrelated things and groups of people within the company who only align goals (eg “piracy is bad”) at the Sr leadership level.

I worked at a big box retail store (long time ago) and for a large national chain (BBY, Target, etc.) policy is to not hassle anyone if they’re inside the 14 days. It gets boxed up and shipped back because that was the agreement we had with the manufacturer. I think those phone shops sometimes...

Agreed. In my (long ago) retail worker past it worked like this: If customer is returning in the return-window, there's basically no questions asked. If they say it's not working, they're given benefit of doubt and the return is simply processed. The item is marked as defective so that it's not...

Agreed. The idea that Nintendo won't Account ban, but would console ban a totally different console than the one they detected unauthorized activity on is preposterous at face value.

I'm very skeptical Nintendo is issuing console bans on NS2 for detected flash cart use on a linked NS1. Not really buying this.

Thanks that was my understanding. In that case, I am not so sure the dump mechanism can be ruled out as a potential detection flag thus far. Generally speaking, I suspect Nintendo is intentionally *not* banning everyone they can detect (or have detected), specifically to obfuscate their...

I don't have the dumper, but I'm curious: Do dumps of the same cartridge between the MiG dumper tool and the MiG Homebrew app have the same hash?

If I gouge out one of the contacts on a regular game card, it won't read and will give an error. Presumably that won't result in a ban. So, if you got the MiG on 1.2 to read after re-inserting it a couple times, then I would guess most likely that error not the same as the error triggered on...

Wait - was everyone who was banned using the official dumper? Anyone who got banned had backups that were from made via the MiG dump homebrew app?

What I keep wondering is this: if Nintendo has a way to detect the MiG, why only use that mechanism to detect and ban consoles, rather than simply make it so that the MiG just does not work? What is the techical explanation for Nintendo being able to detect it sufficiently to flag and ban...

@Locutus73 Agree those are all good and relevant. Consolidating answers to all these will be informative. I’m very interested to know if anyone who was banned can answer “No” to question #1.

Hardware Mig Switch on Switch 2

Agreed. I'm just trying to fit the data. The main questions for folks who've used the MiG on the Switch 2 seem (to me) to be: 1. Did you launch a backed up game from the MiG Flash on cart firmware prior to 1.2, triggering the error message that the cartridge cannot be read? 2. Did you launch...

I wonder if it is possible all the bans so far are from the error generated in the console prior to firmware 1.2 of the Mig, and if the firmware update that enabled compatibility also removed Nintendos ability to detect it.

I don’t really disagree much - but at this point in time I am not sure there’s much utility to that discussion here. More useful and interesting is figuring out under what circumstances folks are getting banned in order to a. prevent more bans b. learn about NS2 and Mig interactions
