    I am bit worried about skipping over that smd component when connecting both boards by wire, though. Particularly if it's a resistor.

    If I recall, the only way you can play your digital games on another 3DS is system transfer. The contents of an SD card belonging to one 3DS won't work on another 3DS without a system transfer. It should be easy to get a game on both systems if you use CFW.

    I have tried both ribbon cables but it made no difference. The connector on the mobo looks fine, at least with the naked eye. I'll make sure and check if the connector and test point have continuity.
