Control Mario Kart DS with Arkanoid paddle
With help of AR cheats

Jack-of-all-trades DS programmer Yasu (R4 and DSTT users should be familiar) has released an action replay cheat string that allows you to redirect d-pad movement in Mario Kart DS to a Taito DS paddle controller (the one bundled with Arkanoid). Much thanks go to member ahtin for the news and video. You can view the cheat string below.

This is somewhat offtopic, but now that you mention it, I've seen several times the word "yasu" and the word "R4" in the same sentence... What did he do with the R4? Or how are they related?

Well looks still stupid. He can't even take a simple corner with this device. Nice hack though.

He was holding the camera with one hand in the video and using the other to steer and hold down the gas button. It would probably be a little more accurate if he could have used both. On a side note this reminds me of a device I had for PSX that had the same arkanoid paddle knob. It actually made the games a little more fun to play. You had to get the hang of it though.

My Arkanoid DS should arrive this week (today, if I'm lucky), I don't have an AR or flashcard, though

But imagine an Atari2600 emulator on the DS with Arkanoid paddle compatibility...that would be sofa king awesome...so it's nice to see some people experimenting with the paddle

Hm don't think I'd rather play it with the paddle than the pad but I'd still like to get the paddle otherwise. Can I get it elsewhere than from playasia with Arkanoid? They've only got pink and silver separate :/

Thats wicked to see. Who needs to play Mario Kart in English anyway. I had been holding off getting my paddle till I got wind of something like this being possible. That and I wanted the paddle for the new Space Invaders game.

Even though I doubt I would ever get one the thing is that if it can be done with Mario Kart it may be possible for other games.

Dude that looks like a terrible way to play...

Some people only seem to think about WHAT they can do and never stop to think about if they SHOULD do it...

its a proof of concept you idiot ben_r. Have you ever heard of an update that may fix controls? I think its a cool idea right now although by looking at that video its still impractical. But this is how cool ideas start. Some of the greatest ideas the world has seen started off pretty bad im sure. The dude behind this little "hack" has contributed some really cool stuff in the past so give him some respect.

I agree with the poster that said this would be ideal for Breakout type games. And Galaga. ooh. Atari2600 games here we come!
