Hey there,

Occasionally when I go to open a game or app I get an error saying "error the card has been removed" and at other times when I am playing a game I will randomly get a random generic error (0xc88044ab) to the point where the games are nearly unplayable now. I've seen posts where people have encountered the same issue, but none of the solutions seem to work. I've reformatted my micro sd to fat32 with 32kb cluster size and tested it with h2testw, the problem just isn't going away. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks!

You did not say what version of the console you have, if you use sd adapter, change it, maybe it could help you too with the generic error, if it is a read issue

I thought it randomly fixed itself but now it's happening again. I am running Luma 10.3 on a New 3DS XL. Also, after attempting to install TFF Curtain Call I noticed that I will get a card removed error whenever the game tries to save data upon launch.
It's also worth noting that I had another micro sd card before this one but it randomly stopped working some day (also, my PC crashes whenever I insert the old micro sd so it's corrupted and I can't access any of the old files) and I have been having these issues ever since I swapped sd cards. I followed the guide on running CFW on a 3ds with a new sd card, but at this point I think I might have done it wrong. Should I just try doing it again?

Update: I dumped and installed a copy of a cartridge game and it works perfectly, I'm pretty sure that I should just reinstall all of the cfw at this point.

Hey, sounds like you have a corruption problem with your sd card.. i recommend backing up your saves with Checkpoint, and if it doesn't let you write to the sd card then you might have to extract them manually (though you have to decrypt them as they're encrypted).. Or just ignore this step uf you don't care about them..
And since you're speaking about file corruption, it could be that some folders on the Nintendo 3DS folder were corrupted and /or are missing, when they were on the old sd card and when you moved said files to the new sd card.
If you wish you can start fresh and let the system create a new Nintendo 3ds folder, but that would mean your installed games and saves (not the ones that're backed up with Checkpoint) will be gone. You can backup both your games with GodMode9 and saves with Checkpoint, if it lets you boot into the home menu (for Checkpoint), before creating a new Nintendo 3ds folder.. which you do by inserting the sd card without the Nintendo 3DS folder on to the root of the sdcard.

Your PC crashes ? I've never heard of anything like that happening before. Usually the strategy in such cases is to use standard PC recovery software like testdisk or Easeus.

I followed the guide on running CFW on a 3ds with a new sd card, but at this point I think I might have done it wrong.
What exactly do you think you might have done wrong?

I dumped and installed a copy of a cartridge game and it works perfectly
Well, you said that the error happens "randomly", so isn't it distinctly possible that it's just a matter of time before it stops working "perfectly"?

I'm pretty sure that I should just reinstall all of the cfw at this point.
No, that is never a solution.

I wonder if the card slot in your 3DS might be dirty or damaged.

I am going to start fresh with a completely new sd card with completely new files, where can I find the guide to use a new sd card with a cfw 3ds? All places that I have looked at have you copy files over from your old sd card but I don't want to do that since that probably won't fix anything.

Here. And here to get Luma3DS, put its boot.firm file in the root of the sdcard, along with following the guide i linked to.

I copied boot.firm and boot.3dsx to my new micro sd and inserted it. When I now turn on my 3ds it says "Could not detect a microSD Card. The software on the microSD Card could not be displayed". I formatted it as fat32 with 32kb cluster size, is there any way to fix this?

Do you have an old or "new" 3ds? Change the sd card adapter if it's an old.
Did you test the new sd card with h2testw?
Where does this message appear, in the home menu or before?

I have a new 3ds, I also realized that guiformat didn't work for some reason :/
How? I highly recommend formatting with it.
How are you inserting the micro sd card to your pc? Change the adapter or whatever that you're using..
It appears on the home menu
That's weird.. The system is using the boot.firm file fine to boot to the home menu, yet it's giving you that error.
Again, was the sd card h2testw?

I will try changing the adapter and checking it in h2testw after reformatting, sorry for being super incompetent lol

I reformatted and did everything you told me to and I am still getting random generic errors in the one game I installed. I am going to try a different install but I'm starting to think that the actual card reader in my 3ds is the problem.

Instead of adding additional new replies, please consider making an edit to your last post if no one has replied.

Also it's worth noting that I have checked the internals of my 3ds and the card reader seemed perfectly fine
What sort of checking did you do that led you to that conclusion?

Is there any way that I can install the game directly to the system to bypass the sd card? It is literally the only game that I want for my 3ds
The 3DS has very limited internal memory and bad things can happen if you start trying to mess with it. Why not just buy the cartridge?

If you downloaded this game from some random Internet site and this is the only game that is giving you problems, then it is not impossible that you downloaded a bad copy.
