I've finally figured out the solutions to all my partitioning problems and seem to have successfully installed an emuMMC for hacking shenanigans.

I'm following this post by GRoberts explaining how he installed his emuMMC and upgraded it.

Right now I've got several questions.

1) GRoberts says: 'Once in CFW (Emunand) you need to make sure you are still on 90DNS, or airplane mode.' I checked and my primary/secondary DNS are 163.172.181.170 / 163.172.141.219, as listed in noah's unfinished guide. Is this good enough to ensure my safety from Nintendo banhammer / supernag and whatnot? I've set up Airplane Mode just in case.

Planning ahead, when I set everything up and start installing and playing backups, should I remain offline while on emunand? How would I go about updating games and getting things like DLC installed?

2) GRoberts reports using his Crash Team Racing cartidge (I haven't got one sadly) to go from 4.1.0 to 7.1.0 and then using choidujournx to upgrade CFW to the latest. Before I do what he says in the post I linked, I really have to know: is it totally okay to jump straight from 4.1.0 to 8.whatever? Is using a cartridge specially for this necessary?

I've also heard alarming stories about burning fuse problems. Will I burn any fuses whilst upgrading and if yes, what consequences might that have later?

3) Finally, I'm really nervous not to mess anything up so if there's anything I need to know to do / not to do, then I'd really appreciate if somebody could tell me what it is.

My Hekate is still 5.0.0 and I don't understand how to update that, if that's needed (have all the recentest files from sdsetup, but that doesn't seem to change the version of Hekate specifically). Is this fine (for now), or does this carry the added risk of enabling autoRCM or something of the sort down the road?

Many thanks for your assistance once again.

Is there a quicker way of booting into emuNAND when turning on the console than opening Hekate through PegaSwitch and waiting for the wheel thingy to stop? Cause that's super time-consuming and has failed before.

You would need an unpatched unit with a modchip to use autoboot and autorcm to boot directly into cfw.

So that's a no for my console then. I guess if I keep it on sleep mode, it makes no difference?

It appears I have successfully upgraded my emuNAND to 8.1.0. Now I'm trying to install my first NSP file, which is actually an .xci file.

If I'm on fat32, can I not install from SD Card at all? Currently reading this on how to install from USB - https://switch.homebrew.guide/usingcfw/installnsps/installnsps-goldtree

The file is over 10 GB...

You can do usb install for all your games that you want to install, that what I been doing, I rarely take out my sd card anymore.

I guess that solves the problem of staying in emuNAND at all times? Btw, is the tutorial I linked to the correct one for what I'm trying to do?

A little stuck trying to install NSPs over USB. Got myself a USB cable and am following the Homebrew Guide instructions on Goldtree. Turned on Goldleaf v0.5 and it keeps waiting for an USB connection. I tried every single USB slot at the back of my desktop PC and not one of them seems to cause 'Nintendo Switch' to appear as an option when I tick 'List all Devices' in Zadig. Is the name 'Nintendo Switch' really supposed to appear automatically, or do people set it up manually first?

I might've finished faster if more users were more eager to help instead of just watching and saying 'hey replying to your own threads is against the rules'.

Now trying to install large NSP files on my SD Card. USB-C isn't working for me! Trying to find a way out. Will this work? Found here: https://team-xecuter.com/community/threads/how-to-copy-4gb-to-fat32.130741/

What you will need:
  1. Nintendo Switch Dock
  2. Flash drive formated as exFAT
Copy your large NSP games to your exFAT flash drive. Boot up SX OS and Dock your switch. Insert your flash drive on the side of the Dock. Navigate into the “Album App” and install your games onto your microSD card which is formated as FAT32.

Will this work for a non-SX user, or is SX needed to get this done?

For Goldleaf usb install you open up goldleaf 0.5 or 0.3 and use the correct goldtree version that goes with it, and find your nsp and let it install it for you, as for SX OS you only need it if you are running into problem running cheats, or if you want to run XCI off a HDD.

I don't have SX OS (it's the homberew that costs money, right?) but I'm basically ready to do anything that would enable me to install those bigger NSPs and XCIs right now.

I tried installing apps via USB but this failed early on. In Zadig, when I open Goldleaf, I don't get Nintendo Switch as one of the options:

I only get these ^ . Switching between USB ports seems to make no difference at all. Goldleaf 0.5 (latest version) just keeps saying it's waiting for the USB connection to start. Makes no sense, considering the Switch is being successfully charged in the meantime. How would it get charged if the USB connection weren't successful?

Basically, would just do anything to install those NSPs / XCIs right now.

With how much trouble you've been having I would recommend SX OS as it's the most user-friendly for noobs. It will give you two other install options (SX menu installer, and SX Installer). I never use Goldleaf. I dunno though, with how far you've come that may not sound like good news for you. Your call.

Edit: Basically, all I do is this: I have a 1TB portable hard drive (NTSF Format, 4GB+ files are fine) I copy the game to. Then I go and attach it to my dock. Open SX (album), and simply install it. Done.

I did this with Fire Emblem ;)

You should use Zadig 2.4 if you can't get Tegrasmash GUI to pick it up.

Quoting from another thread:

Turn your switch normally on. Connect the USB C cable to pc. Then you should here the typical device detected sound. Wait untill Windows "installed" switch drivers.

After that load: https://github.com/rajkosto/TegraRcmSmash

The readme file was super helpful to me.

Turn off the switch. Now go RCM Mode. After that connect to USB C. You should now hear that Windows Device connected sound from Windows.

Now follow that:
https://zadig.akeo.ie/
3. From the device list, choose APX (if it's not showing up in the list, go to Options menu and check List All Devices)
4. For the driver type, cycle the arrows until you see libusbK (v3.0.7.0) in the text box (IMPORTANT!)
5. Click the big Install Driver button. Device manager should now show "APX" under libusbK USB Devices tree item.

For NSP installs on atmosphere, you must have signature patches installed.

Hope this helps.

It looks like my Switch is being charged by being connected to USB whichever port I choose, but the computer doesn't make the usual sound it does when it recognises a new device. It's as if it doesn't recognise my Switch is there at all. I have Windows 7, not 10, if that makes any difference.

Also, my device is Ipatched and I've never used a jig for RCM things. Does the part of the instructions where I should go to RCM Mode apply to me, maybe I should look for an alternative? A little lost here.

Did you do these steps even if it doesn't detect?
Go to:
https://zadig.akeo.ie/
3. From the device list, choose APX (if it's not showing up in the list, go to Options menu and check List All Devices)
4. For the driver type, cycle the arrows until you see libusbK (v3.0.7.0) in the text box (IMPORTANT!)

Have you tried another usb port, do you have access to another computer to see if it detects?

I've tried every single port on my computer. The devices it detects are the ones I showed in the picture above, and they're all the same regardless of the port I stuck the Switch into.
