Hi guys, I know this subject has come up before but none of the answers I've found in other threads have helped, so I was hoping someone might be able to walk me through solving this problem please..!

I am trying to Hack my Switch for the first time, and have followed two different guides to get me there. Both of them ended up in the same problem.

( I can't post links since I'm new, so if you want to see which guides I'm using, please google the following terms: )
( First guide: ) "The Ultimate Noob Guide for Hacking your Nintendo Switch"
( Second guide: ) "nh switch guide getting started"

Currently I am using the second guide. I have succesfully copied all the right files into all the right places as instructed. I have successfully entered RCM mode and injected the Hekate payload. I have made my backups and now should be able to launch Atmosphere.

The guide says:
"
  1. Power on your Switch into RCM, and upload the Hekate payload
  2. Navigate to Launch with the volume buttons, and press the power button to confirm
  3. Navigate to Atmosphere FSS0 with the volume buttons, and press the power button to confirm
"
However in step 3, "Atmosphere FSS0" does not exist on the menu.
Instead, after selecting "Launch" in step 2, the following menu comes up:

"[Launch configurations]
Back

Payloads . . .
More configs . . .

Patched Kernel
Patched SecureMonitor
Injected KIP1"

I have tried looking in the Payloads and More Configs folders, but neither will launch Atmosphere.

Can anyone help? Happy to answer all questions. Thanks in advance! :)

Can you show me what your sd card structure looks like? Have you tried injecting fusee primary?

Thanks for the quick reply, let me try this and get back to you... I tried fusee secondary to no avial but let me see if I can track down primary...
Meanwhile, I can't screenshot my sd card structure cause I'm a new poster, but is there a way I can IM it to you?
I am using my phone SD Card which has a lot of other stuff in it. So it's a bit hectic. But there is about 10GB free space on it, and all the folders are in place as recommended in the second guide I mentioned above.
If that's not enough info, let me know
Thanks

Holy crap it worked!! I downloaded a copy of fusee primary and injected it, and atmosphere booted! You are awesome thanks so much!
Question: Do I need to put this fusee primary file somewhere else (like on the SD card) so that it can boot through hekate? Or should I just skip hekate from now on?
What's the easiest way to enter Atmosphere from now on? Do I have to inject fusee primary from my computer every time?

Well for right now just kinda ditch hekate. And you have to launch the payload every time you power off the switch

Hmm ok I am trying to download Aluminium Foil from the Github link you sent me NFates, but which file from that page should I download? The AluminiumFoil.sln file? Which file is the program/installer?
Had the same problem with Goldtree...

I would strongly recommend installing titles using Goldtree 0.5 directly from the SD card instead of messing with USB. USB is very flaky and consistently has a wide variety of issues like loose cables, bad drivers, console freezes, OFW incompatibilities.

The only downsides of installing from SD card are very minor or one-time affairs.
  1. Turn off the switch (be sure to have autoRCM enabled)
  2. Move the SD card to a PC
  3. Copy the .nsp files to a "sdmc:/games" folder on the SDXC card,
  4. Transfer the SDXC card back to the console
  5. Turn on the Switch
  6. Boot Hekate
  7. (if not done already) Set Hekate to autoboot Atmosphere
  8. Select Launch->CFW
  9. Open the Homebrew Menu (Hold R while enter the album)
  10. Launch "goldleaf 0.5"
  11. Navigate to the SD:/games folder
  12. select an NSP and install it
  13. Wait for it to install
  14. select the NSP that has been installed
  15. delete it
  16. Move on to the next NSP and repeat until they have all been installed
The above method is very reliable, which USB/aluminum foil is not.

If you are going to waste hours and hours trying to get USB working, then it is better to spend that time splitting the large .NSP files using "splitNSP.py" and know they will at least work work when done.

Extra note that the archive flag must be set on the "thisTitle_split.nsp" folder for it to be installed properly.

Thanks, yeah I've tried this but the following error occurs:
"Error: 0x234c02
Module: FS (2)
Description: Invalid NCA (might mean missing sigpatches or a too low firmware) (4518)"

This happens whether I choose to ignore the required firmware version of the NSP or not.

The only difference is that I copied the NSP files into the SD/switch folder as opposed to the sdmc:/games folder that you recommended. Could this have an impact?

That cannot matter. It seems like you are either missing signature patches. Someone else can link them please?

Or that the OFW is too low to play that game (hard requirement for an OFW is not necessary bypassed when choosing to ignore version), or the .NSP is corrupt.

Installing using a different installer method will not fix the issue. What OFW yare you on?

Is the OFW the System Version? Switch system version reads as 8.0.1 (AMS 0.8.10)

Yes. As long as they are in the correct folder and Atmosphere is configured to be loaded with the optional kips they will just work.

You can double check if atmosphere will load kips in the SD:/bootloader/hekate_ipl.ini file.

It should have a spot that says...

Code:
{-- Custom Firmwares --}
[CFW]
fss0=atmosphere/fusee-secondary.bin
kip1patch=nosigchk
atmosphere=1
logopath=bootloader/bootlogo.bmp
{ }

The general consensus is that USB installs are faster and more convenient than splitting files. You only need a $5 cable and knowing how to follow a tutorial (which you need in any other scenario anyway).

AluminumFoil is what most people use nowadays, I'd guess it's reliable.

I have literally only ever been able to get USB to work on one time on 6.2 OFW using goldleaf/goldtree v0.2. 0.5 never works, ever. 7.x+ OFW consistently crashes every switch I touch from both my PC and laptop on Win 7 x64. Maybe it works on other configs? or older OFW? or with a newer PC OS? or if jiggling the USB cable at exactly right angle? or by restarting the switch every time an NSP installs and then the console freezes? or when restarting the PC constantly?

The process is fundamentally unreliable and overly dependent on having the correct versions of x and y and so forth. USB should not be used unless you have time to burn.

Edit: Addendum, Goldleaf v0.5 + copying some files is a very reliable method that can very quickly install some games. This has the added benefit of being able to deal with the whole mess that is USB installation with the more basic question of whether or not NSPs install at all (missing sig/es patches/corrupted files).
