Been playing around with some of the overclocking methods out there and just wondering what everyone else is doing.

Feel free to discuss whatever overclocking related stuff interests you, but I was mostly concerned with how everyone was actually setting up, starting or using their overclock profiles. If this thread evolves into something informative I may turn it into an overall everything you need to know piece about overclocking.

For example, using freebird or sys-clk, specific overclock frequencies you may feel better or worsen a game or the system, requests, problems....yada yada yada blah blah blah.

AND...DISCUSS!!!

Anyone know of the actual "safe" overclocking limits or any examples of overclocking causing negative or destructive side effects with the switch? If so, please post your experiences or link to your examples so I can factor them in during testing.

Thinking of compiling a more comprehensive list of overclocking or underclocking values that I will keep here, but possibly submit to the sys-clk-db since it doesn't seem to get much love or support. If people want to start posted their used values ALONG WITH INCLUDED COMMENTS, following the standard sys-clk-db formatting, on what they are using during certain situations or games I will start testing and creating a running list.

AGAIN, please follow the sys-clk-db formatting standards from the link below and please INCLUDE comments in your formatting with a quick explanation of what made you choose your specific values. This will help greatly during my own testing and make things go a lot smoother while compiling this list. So, thanks in advance for any support on this project.

I use sys-clk and am very happy with it.

Since I currently mostly play handheld I simply change the handheld clocks to whatever makes sense to me:
Slight upclock for demanding games to meet targeted framerate or get a higher dynamic resolution and a downclock for 2D games since they don't need that speed anyway.

I usually start with a sensible baseline and then adjust the clocks on the fly via FTPD sys-module while in-game.
This immediately shows the results (i.e. higher framerate/slowdowns or higher/lower pixel count).

Fun to mess with in Trials Rising for example.

Are you using FTP to edit the ini files for sys-clk? Wondering if that works.

How did sysclock interact with title replacement for homebrew? Like say I want to set the GPU clock for running Retroarch, can one do that?

Yes it works.
If you use the FTP sysmodule then it's running in the background all the time, and then you can edit the sys-clk config and push it to the Switch.
So it basically changes the clocks in realtime, as it's reloaded every few seconds or or.

Burn them consoles, boyes!

Nah, I hardly ever go over the docked GPU clocks in handheld anyway, this basically gives the absolute same airflow.
And a little more CPU clock doesn't hurt, as the Tegra can handle a lot more.
So if you're sensible with it I don't think it hurts the system at all.

How are most people modifying their overclocking profiles? I find it kind of a pain to consracons ftp to change a value...test...ftp change... repeat over and over again. I understand sys-clk has a somewhat database of presets for overclocking but is their a more complete database out there?

Also, is anyone using Freebird? I know it's a little outdated and, last I used it, had that sleep bug, but seems easier for me and my usage to just set and forget.

freebird has been updated about last week with an ozone-ish gui and the sleep bug seems to be fixed.
at least for the moment, it seems to be easier to handle on the fly, you can just enter homebrew menu>freebird to change the settings even without a pc. but it uses a fundamentally different approach, being profile based clock setting (with a handheld, charging, docked and something else), instead of the title-based clock settings.
so you need to remember what clocks were good for what game.

also, it seems to readily offer higher clockspeeds than sys-clock does, with up to 700something in handheld mode and one or two more settings in docked? where sysclock seems to cap at 460 in handheld.
wether thats a good or a bad thing remains to be seen.

I use freebird and I pretty much game in handheld mode all the time. Can't remember the exact numbers but my cpu is clocked at default, and the gpu is half way between handheld setting and docked setting (550 odd mhz) That to me irons out any issues I have in games so far. I just leave it set to this at all times.

I have both freebird and sysclock installed, but find myself using freebird nearly 85% of the time. When I need OC, it's almost always at max within safety thresholds, which means there's really only one profile that I use in handheld or docked. The only time I use sysclk is when I need underclock, when the values are all over the place in terms of min CPU/GPU/mem values for indie titles.

Ironically, I use freebird to suss out all the clock speeds I need to build the sysclock game specific profiles.

I have a feeling once sysclk comes packaged with a built-in GUI that can be modified in real time like freebird, I will likely switch over to that.

All clock speeds that sysclk provide are safe :)

Does anyone else have a situation where their GPU, CPU and Ram are all displayed as 0? I’m on retroarch 1.7.6 and freebird 0.9.1 but still can’t manage to change my values
