Unofficial: Alien vs. Predator Gold - Switch Edition

220px-AvP1.jpg

This is an unofficial Nintendo Switch port of the Fox Interactive / Rebellion Developments game, Aliens Versus Predator Gold.

Note: Requires the full game (AvP Gold or AvP 2000), both GOG or Steam work.

If you use AvP 2000, go there https://icculus.org/avp/files/etc/ and download english.txt, rename it to language.txt and put it with the assets into the same Folder as the NRO.

A correct setup will look like this:

All folders (but FMVs) must be lower case, also every file in every dir must be lower case.
"+" is Escape, "-" is Enter

Strafing sucks balls so I currently only enabled it for not Alien.
This is the first iteration, expect bugs.

Don't forget to map joycon controls in the options, else you will not be able to do much ingame, also it currently renders in 1080p, so handheld text will look small.

Known bugs:
- Profile sometimes doesn't want to load properly, load another profile, then use the change profile option and it should work
- Exit Game does not work
- Some stuff requires keyboard input (for example gamma control, works via docked or USB OTG), but the game can be played without it! Swkbd support is planned when I find time.

the readme appendix A says 2018

Thanks for this game engine, I liked the game back in 1999/2000 but never completed it.
I wonder if my data from old PC version will work. I guess I'll test it, if I find where I stored my game files...

I was able to replace the file containing the damn tracking sound, it's in "common.fll", you can search for Alien Motion Tracker sound replacement, there's a texture file for the HUD tracker in the package "Tex35.FLL" too, DON'T REPLACE IT! or else your game won't boot.

Also you can delete the FMVs folder, there's no issues doing so.

why does it look like you don't know how to play?
there's really no button assigned to actions at all? like, active night vision, heat vision for alien, active wall walking, etc. ? all you did was run in circle on the dark spot in same room :(
it was frustrating to watch not doing what's required to advance, spend too much time in menus wondering what an option does instead of selecting it to see what it does. I'll give it a 2/10 haha, nice video to see it works, but nothing to see.
I should really find my old game disc to try (and suffer with controls?) myself too.

and yeah, you disabled video embedding option, but we can watch it on youtube.

Are switch homebrew working with USB keyboard/mouse? :D
edit: seems homebrew can use USB keyboard/mouse, I wonder if this game does.

The game and controls work fine if you go into control options and bind them to the buttons you want to use..
It even says to do it in OP.

I have the gold installation disc, but works on winXP only.
fastfile folder only contains tex, no sound.
sound files seems scattered in different folders before installation (multiple Sound folder : HSound/fastfile/, Lsound/fastfile/, Rsound/fastfile/). all contains duplicated files but with different filesize.

I have different folders with identical filenames (some in uppercase extensions), but only one matches the AppendixB MD5 so I suppose I can check all files to get only the good ones.
are the needed files only the one listed in appendix B? or also more (config, Shape_rifs, FMVs, etc.)
do I need more files? If I do, can someone post the full list/tree of files and folders? thank you :)

edit:
Disc2 contains soundtracks, can they be read from extracted wav files?

You can use keyboard, but mouse isn't working.
Anyway just set up controls and its decent, but it doesn't come close to using a mouse of course.

it doesn't work for me.
but can be many things.

I run from nsp hbl
I'm still on firmware v4.0.1 (AMS 8.0.2)
I don't know if I have all needed files. I followed the AppendixB list. I have language.txt and cd tracks.txt in same folder than nro
my avp md5 don't match at all for 90% of files (mainly rif files). that's probably my problem, it's neither gog or steam version, it's CD version.

I get "You exited the program because an error occured" message.
it created a new ".avp/Custom" empty folder. no log file inside .avp or custom folder.
