Hey,
I found a switch. Guy says it has firmware below 6.0.1 and serialnr XAJ4003. He also states it's new and still has 2 years of warranty. Is this even possible?

If he says the switch is still sealed, how can he know the firmware version and serialnr?

A question about cfws. Is it possible to play original bought games online without risk like ssbu?

The manufacturer does not offer a 2 year warranty, he may have bought an extended warranty at a retailer such as bestbuy.

Switches do not come “sealed”. There is no sticker or anything sealing them when they are new. This was the case when I bought mine new and I hear the same story from others (unless things have changed). Regardless, you can check the serial number of the console without opening the box, there is a rectangle on the outside of the box showing the serial number.

As many have said and will continue to convey, if you mod your system in any way you are at a risk of a ban. There are ways to reduce your chances but there are no guarantees and for many it’s just a matter of time before they are banned.

Lastly I would check that serial number to make sure you can even mod it, firmware # means nothing. The new ones have a patched tegra chip so no exploit. I wouldn’t trust what the seller tells you considering he said it’s sealed which is a red flag to me.

If you're using CFW, then there's always a ban risk. If you're pirating other games, then you will almost certainly be banned.

Thank you all for your help, I like this community already!

If I get banned can I still get game updates? Is there a list what you can no longer do? I don't plan to pay for the online anyway.

Oh and if you use cfw can you still play in lan together with other switches?

If you get banned you are still allowed to do system update and game updates. It just doesn't allow you to play online or access the e-shop. If you are running CFW you can still play lan together and you can also use SX OS to play LAN over the internet using the latest 2.5 BETA, there is some configuration you would need to do. PS: Always keep stealth mode on when using SX OS.

Not entirely true I’ve been superbanned meaning no updates and i never went online with custom firmware the only thing I can put it down to was updating my backups through Nintendo’s service ...

I've never heard of someone not being able to do game updates after a ban until now. Regardless manual firmware and game updates can be applied offline anyway. Basically if you mod a switch expect to be banned and have to update manually, that is how I update my stuff anyway.

It’s quite commen to be completely banned from Nintendo’s servers updated my switch and all my games by unofficial means I’m not complaining it is what it is ...and in actual fact my sons switch has also been superbanned

From what I've read all bans eventually get updated to super bans which means you can not officially update games. You should always be able to update firmware with a super ban. I started off with a regular ban, could still officially update games & that was in fact eventually updated to a super ban.

A ban is inevitable unless you restore a virgin nand backup after everything you do. I got my switch banned the day after I bought it lol.

Nintendo ain't fuckin around anymore

Sent from my toaster running Rebug

I must not be super banned yet then. Basically first I got banned from eshop but could still update pirated games. Then I got banned from updating games. I can still update firmware though, just updated to 6.2 the other day.
