Hacking Proof TX used code stolen from #reswitched

uh didnt everyone piggy back off of Gateway's Emunand for years? People didnt seem to have an issue there.

We didn't steal their code though. We either:

a) Used their launcher to make an emunand without the GW card. (Which they let you do.)
b) Used open source solutions that were coded from scratch.

In fact the scene's open source version was better than GW's and wasted less space. These are two completely different things and you know it.

This -is- related to the debate. This is a tool that sells well because it enable piracy. If people are (rightfully) gonna get outraged at this team stealing code from other teams, they should be just as outraged by the first selling point of this tool, which is to enable piracy and consequently steal software from other companies.
Pointing it out the hypocrisy is both on topic AND necessary sometimes, and I'm sorry that you can't see it nor want to bother hearing about it.
As someone earlier said: "There is no honor among thieves."

So lemme get this straight, you're supporting thieves and then retaliating because other people(on this forum) are against their practices? Then you go so far, as to try to justify their thievery by drawing parallels to what's been going on at the homebrew scene. Please kindly get lost and don't voice your invalid rationalizations. The very first statement is wrong, you're not getting this straight at all since this is not what I said... Nowhere do I say I support thieves, quite the opposite actually, so your whole analysis is based on false assumption. Just look above.

No, they don't. They do buy the original game though.

People here keep saying that TX "stole" the code for profit. SX OS is free. It's the backup loader that's not.

That's not how the GPLv2 works. If you distribute a modified version you have to make the source available.

So funny how many "anti piracy" folks around here are condemning TX but are patiently waiting for the other group to release theirs. If you don't wanna pay for their OS, good for you. But for the people who don't actually care who releases a backup loader, they don't mind paying $20. Release something that's actually useful then start this conversation again.

Don't put words in my mouth. I'm waiting for CFW to play homebrew. (In fact hekate has me completely satisfied for now.) I wouldn't mind playing rom hacks though.

They weren't. GW's CFW was closed source. It might have been a clone but it didn't use any of the actual code from GW.

Don't care if they "stole" code or not. They have a working CFW that does what everyone wants. Homebrew and piracy.

Atmosphere is open source under a GPLv2 license. Which means that SX OS is in violation of the license agreement as they do not provide sources.

I doubt Team Xecuter cares about violating a license agreement.

gateways 1.0 was cracked and decrypted, that was before the brick code was implemented, rx tools was exactly what gateway was, and people used it with no problems, well idc in reality if they used atmosphere completely or part of it, the backup loader is what is important and it works very good

It's called a clean room implementation. It's exactly how ReactOS gets away with building a binary compatible clone of Windows.

@kamesenin888 the thing is, RXTools didn't have any code from GW in it. Two things made for the same purpose aren't clones. With your logic, the PS4 ripped off of the Wii U because they're both video game consoles.
