If this is in the wrong section, I apologize.

Is Nintendo's system and tactics of securing piracy free consoles poor and just plain bad?
Every modern Nintendo Console and handheld has been hacked and used to run exploits, and backed up games. If I remember correctly, the 360 systems were nearly impenetrable. Only being able to run backups and Homebrew through hardmods. The Wii U, 3DS, and Wii don't even require hardmods to hack.

So is Nintendo's security awful? Why don't they just use the same system of security that Microsoft used?
To be fair, the PS2 and PS3 can also be easily hacked without opening anything up, and that was released around the same time as the 360 and Wii. But seeing as time was moved forward, and we're more advanced, it makes me wonder how Nintendo hasn't found a way to lock users from exploiting their consoles.

What did make Microsoft's security so good?
As far a I know, it is impossible to play Xbox and Xbox 360 games on the PC. Same goes for PS3 games.
And yet, we have Dolphin and Cemu. What is going on with Nintendo?
It seems that they try so hard to stop this kind of thing, and yet other Consoles have better security than they do.

Again, for the original Xbox, you need a convoluted setup to run CFW and play backups. Years later, we are able to do the same thing with Nintendo consoles without physical tools. Well, depending of FW.
So... if Nintendo upgraded their means of closing off hackers, how would they go about doing so, and why haven't they yet?

Is Nintendo's security really as bad as it seems?

Nvidia's security is bad :P
So do updates come from them, or from Nintendo? Does it depend on what the problem is?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

On the switch they use a hardware problem, many devs have stated Nintendo really upped their game here
This is true.

A big factor is interest - especially for the emulators. Nintendo has more exclusives than any other console. For Xbox - it's easier to just pirate the game on the PC - many times this is true for ps as well. For Nintendo you have to either hack the system or make an emulator. There is no other way to play these games.

This makes it much more interesting to hack ninty and make emulators - because there is a much bigger benefit than playing like 4 exclusives.

But it is also true that ninty has just been shit at security in the past.

This is not a Nintendo software problem, but a Nvidia hardware problem.
So this time, the update will need to be hardware, and will have to come from Nvidia.

And I'm guessing that making a hardware revision would not be worth the time and money? Will they just have to take the loss

They are already working on a revision "Mariko". Won't be long most likely. Nintendo has to show they are locking down their platform for 3rd party devs.

Sure the revision is on the way, using the Mariko version of Nvidia chip, probably next month or the other it will be shipping to shops. But what is already out, is already out, they will have to eat that up.

Will this be announced in a Direct? Or are they just gonna swap out the old one with the Mariko subtly like nothing happened? If so, I'm guessing performance, visuals and things like that wont change, to the point where only those who know about the new hardware would even know there is a difference? Cause wouldn't this technically be Nintendo Switch MK2?

Sure they will tell nothing. It will look the same, nobody will know until we get one in our hands.
For as much as we know, probably it is out already in shops.
But as support for Mariko was added in FW5.0, one indicator should be that if the console has a FW below that one, it is an older one.

Has nothing to do with how good a security is because everything is hackable. The reason nintendo get's hacked a lot is because there's a lot of interest to hack nintendo consoles because their games are just fun and many are not found on any other console. So whereas xbox games can also be played on the pc there is less incentive and motivation to hack xbox. Kind of like the same reason there's more viruses in window vs macos it's not because mac is more secure it's because there's less interest in hacking apple since most users and most software is on windows.

I'd rather have AMD, tbh. The Xbox and Playstation use AMD.
If they had very similar Nvidia GPUs inside their APU I bet the GPU performance would increase at least 10% just by going with Nvidia LOL.

At least on PC usually Nvidia can most of the times achieve better performance with lower Tflop cards.

If the Nintendo Switch was AMD, 1st it would have never been as I don't think AMD is anymore on mobile market and 2nd it would have a downgrade in graphics and 3rd we would probably still not have a hacked switch yet, so thank you Nvidia :)
