I need to send in my 3ds to Nintendo for repair. It has a cracked screen which makes it really hard to see some stuff on the screen.

I have a "New" 3ds XL, running Luma 8.1, Boot9Strap, and OFW 11.5.0-38U

I'm wonder how and what I need to do to hide my CFW from Nintendo, so that when it comes back it will still have it.

I think you only have to uninstall it completely,or restore your original NAND.

Then they will update it to 11.5 and fix it.

Advice, try fixing it yourself, unless you have warranty for free fix.

There's no way I can fix a cracked screen myself. Plus I'm already updated to 11.5. This isn't the homebrew launcher I'm worried about, but CFW.

Send It to Someone from the Hardmod list. There are a few guys that are very able to repair your device. And probably a lot cheaper then BigN and without the need of deinstalling anything. When you are in Germany we can get things going [emoji6]when from somewhere else simply check the Hardmod thread. They are all there. Greetz Seb.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel super confident just handing over my 3ds to some random person on the internet. Is there really no way to temporarily hide the CFW? I thought Boot9Strap hijacked to bootrom, and only a hardware revision could fix it, so as long as they don't replace my 3ds hardware entirely it should be fine, right?

Could I do something like a system transfer to a computer, and then transfer it back after getting it repaired?

it's very easy to detect CFW,if they found it,they will not repair it.

And if you Uninstall cfw they will update to 11.5 (or you will already be there) meaning no way to reinstall b9s without another 3ds (at least until ntrboothax releases). So OP is screwed either way if they want to send it to Nintendo.

So you either un do it all and let Nintenho break CFW for you. Or take a chance and do it you're self. Worst case you break the already broken screen. Best case, you fix it and learn a thing or two.. Plus the people who do hard mods have a'lot of feedback. Who is to say Nintendo wont steal you're console :O

You've got a decent point there. Nintendo might keep your console if there are any traces of CFW :P

If your console has CFW, Nintendo will 100% replace it with a refurbished one on 11.5 and send it back. If you have a warranty, it will be voided and "a" console returned to you at your expense. Honestly, I would look for an electronics repair shop locally. 9/10 they repair consoles too and don't care if you have hacks one way or another, they are normally a lot cheaper than other places as well.

You could install a stealth build of Luma, and use a "blank" SD card in the console when you send it in and there is a good chance they won't find it. (Not sure how far they go to check, as in patched FIRM 0/1 or existing *hax* in CTRNAND) or if they just check the SD card for files/button press payloads. If it's the latter, then you'd be good to go but I would wait to hear from someone who has actually sent their DS for repairs using a stealth build (with proof) and got back the same console (serial # verification) with their CFW intact to be 100% sure.

At the point of a stealth build, there wouldn't be a point in having Luma anymore. They probably check for region and sig patches which is really what Luma is there for.

See if someone on the temp can help with fixing it. There are a lot of people here who do hardmods who would be willing to repair your device, some at a cheaper price than what Nintendo offers...

The stealth build is reversible, it's only temporary to hide the fact. Luma works the same way as it always does, albeit a little differently in terms of loading CFW. It basically runs luma in OFW mode if you will, the patches are turned "off" for all intents and purposes so there is nothing to see. I was wondering if they could perhaps detect A9LH/B9S which isn't concealable, or even if they go that far to try.

I'm sure they could detect B9S as it modifies the FIRM partitions. They could dump the partitions and compare hashes. However, corruption could also cause a bad hash on the partitions so, idk.

Yeah exactly, and what reason would they have to hash check bootrom partitions anyway if they're just supposed to fix a screen? Lol So I don't even know if they WOULD, even if they should. Haha
